But if he’s the difference between staying up (Bolton) or getting into the play-offs (PNE), can they afford to wait 12mths? Yes, he’d be out of contract, but (especially in Bolton’s case), a relegation would scupper any deal.

 

But if he stays until the end of the season and only plays a bit part on the pitch (if it's true that Collins wants to use 2 fast strikers upfront), then what championship clubs are going to offer him a deal?

 

I'm talking about him though rather than the clubs wanting him. Obviously the clubs wanting him will have a budget to be able to afford him. If from that budget they have to give City £1m that reduces what they can afford to give him by £1m. If he hangs on till end of the season the whole budget for signing him goes to him, so what is his incentive to leave now?

 

How can anyone rate Collins as a coach when he hasn't coached a 1st team before?

Sure he might of liked the way he helped the under 18's but come on let's get real here.

Guaranteed pay rise, being in the squad of a team in the higher league and no longer having to deal with Rahic (if rumours are to be believed).

The alternative is that he stays with us, his form drops off the table / he fails to shine in our coach’s new system (take your pick), or he picks up a serious injury that keeps him out of the game for 6mths or so.

Surely a guarantee is better than a possible regardless of the situation?

 

Anything could happen in the next 12 months.
Bad injury.
Gets relegated in a bad team and only scores 10 goals.
Loss of form.

No disrespect but I think I'd go with a professional footballers opinion on how good a coach he thinks Collins is over what you think Fordy.

 

But he makes a valid point. How will Wyke know how good a coach Collins is? He was a PT coach at u18 level last season and won’t have done any real coaching this last couple of days.

So genuine question, how would Wyke know if Collins is any good or not?

 

But it's not all about money, are we certain we don't need him? Firing on all cylinders, his link up play and goals have been essential to us. So could new coach/fresh start and the right sort of support get us the 20 goals a season man. If not, we still have to unearth and pay for a quality replacement and that may be a bigger gamble.

 

You are spot on. The bigger problem if we did sell Wyke would be adequately replacing him. Nobody would be upset if we sold him and used the money to improve us. Look at Hanson. Some were gutted to be losing him, but once we signed Wyke, I’m sure we’d all agree he was an improvement.

The problem now is that we just don’t fully understand the owners’ model. If we did get £1m for Wyke, would we sign an adequate replacement / even better or would we bank the money and sign another couple of players with potential?

 

Genuine answer, I don't know but I would guess he has maybe been involved in the odd training session with the first team, Wyke might have had conversations with Collins and liked his ideas, Wyke may have heard good things about him from some of the younger players that have worked with him.

 

How do you know his option?

Also he isn't going to go out and say Colin's is rubbish is he?

I don't know his opinion, Mike Hunt said he'd heard a rumour Wyke likes Collins as a coach, you replied to that post suggesting it was ridiculous for anyone to think that and I replied to you that I would take a professional footballers view over yours. It's there in black and white that it is a rumour, nobody is saying it is gospel.
