There are some decent midfielders without a club at the moment. Obviously some out of our reach though.

 

Surprised to see some names on that list.
Players without clubs will be desperate just to be playing so it’s worth asking the question to any of them no matter how big the name is.
Who’d have thought we have ever got the likes of Chris Waddle, Lee Hendrie, Stephen Warnock to come here.

 

There’s a Bergkamp on that list as well.
Wow.
No pressure.

 

2 of them were shite though. Warnock came too early in his career and Hendrie had semi retired by the time he rocked up.

 

How match fit will they be though? We need players to come in that can hit the ground running, not ones that need weeks to get up to scratch.

 

We also had Warnock at the end of his career, and did a good job for us

 

Absolutely nothing to lose, agree. Yes they may be rusty but better to have someone make an impact from Feb onwards than not at all. Jim O’Brien improved a bad side under such circumstances.

Its not ideal but if we aren’t spending money and miss out on loan targets - maybe to League One rivals - free agents may be our only hope.

 

Ideally yes but quality gets away with not being fully match fit in this league. Also by the time the isolations are finished they'll have had time to get some fitness into their legs. If they are looking to get back in I'd imagine they've been doing some work with the January window approaching.

Fair enough, but if they are that good, why haven't we brought them in already? You don't need to wait for the window to sign a free agent is my understanding, unless that's changed.

 

It depends when they're last contract ended. If they were out of contract before the summer window shut, they can sign for any English side at any time. If they were released after the close of the window, they can't sign until Jan 1st. Hence why on deadline day you often see certain squad players released around the league.

I say English teams as in Wales they aren't allowed to sign anyone outside the windows, and Stockport used this to their advantage signing most their best deals outside windows that don't exist for English teams in NL. Could be a rule to remember if Wrexham come up and are rumored for free agents.

 

I'm pretty sure all the players mentioned in that article were released in the summer.

 

Another rumour in the T&A that clubs are after Elliott Watt.

I'm not sure I believe it, because the source appears to be Elliott's agent - I suppose if they link him with transfer fees enough times someone, somewhere might read it and pay more attention...

For what it's worth, I'm resigned to the idea if we got an offer we'd sell him and quickly bring in someone with far less technical ability.

 

But who would hopefully not give away so many stupid free kicks and gift so much possession to the opposition.

Expecting some early signings now the manager has responsibility and has signed his own scouts.

Like I've already said this transfer window certainly won't be a walk in the park especially for club's like ours with little financial clout at our level.
The pandemic will play it's part with deals scuppered up and down the country due to illness.

 

Agree Foghorn. Under normal circs I'd totally agree with Boswana. But the new rise in infections will have a significant effect on alot of signings not just for us. In the same boat, waiting for potential new players to recover/stop isolating/etc before they can ever meet up with their new team mates and train. And oh yes - there's that little thing of our ever growing list of postponed games. We'll need players that are tiptop bloody fit from Jan onwards because the way things are going, we'll be playing at least two games a week til the end of the season.

 

Cannot see much movement anywhere until mid-late January

 

Just add the word "deficit" in there and you're covering all the bases

 

And there's the rub. We\re not in deficit. One of the few clubs in the lower leagues who aren't in financial turmoil. So please Stefan, put some REAL money into the Jan window and then again in the Summer. I think he's genuine about wanting to wrong the rights of the Edin time-of-madness. But Sparks hasn't done enough yet to convince the guy we need a big dump of money right now to get us out of this awful league and upwards.
