I think I once read that Adams has never paid a transfer fee for a player. If that's the case, 4 promotions bringing in free agents is top management, and probably what appealed to Rupp and Sparks

I suspect we are in a good position financially, but don't expect us to spend it. This transfer window will be experienced loan players, hopefully those with a few Championship games under their belts but not figuring at their clubs, like Jacob Butterfield was back in 2019. I just hope they prove to be better than he was, although I think we could have got much more out of him and note he signed for St Johnstone this week.

No way did we spend that sort of money, the clubs whole ethos is self sustainability. Add that to the fact we've been reducing the clubs budget and signing players no one wanted like Robinson and Lavery then those sort of transfer figures just don't add up.

There's loads of good players on frees every summer and even good strikers are routinely loaned around at this level we've both done it (Doyle) and received it (Cook) one man's trash is another man's treasure and all that

the lower end does, funny how everyone takes shots at the higher end rather than the lower end. like others have said frees still get an agent fee, and we signed 5 players last season (winter and this summer) for a fee. and if there were all around 100k then the lower figure I suggested was correct. people are very black and white on here. either im right or wrong no gray...

After football finances were ravaged by covid 19 and the fact we have drastically reduced out budget I would say its highly unlikely we have splashed out anywhere near £100,000 for any player. I don't know that for definite, but even when we were doing really well in league 2 did we spend £750,000 on fees. From recollection our biggest spend was when we brought Charlie Wyke and others in that season, I think we spend around 450,000 to 500,000 from what I remember on a few players. The Wyke signing on the back of the money received for Hanson.

I did think that! I do think there was a small fee and a resale fee but i can’t imagine that being a lot (even by my standards :p)

So if we have circa 400/500k as you allude we are not gonna blow 80% of that on one player are we as XI bantam thought?
That’s all we are replying to. It’s common sense

Ah yeah i do remember that, pretty sure we sold Wyke to Sunderland for around 400k with a potential of up to £750,000 in add ons?

I think ive been reading too many championship and PL transfers. Its mad how quickly it goes up. A L2/NL Winger for 60k yet we played against a winger at Notts forest who was £12m… wow.

if gotts is only around 60k we should totally go for him we should have the money for that.

You can @ me if you want!

Honestly i thought we could only afford one player. It looks like that is still pretty much the case. Would i rather have 1 first team player or 3 bench warmers? Id rather have the 1 player to be honest.

There are clubs in the national league spending the sort of money you were talking about, the likes of Chesterfield, Stockport and Wrexham. All three of those are desperate to be promoted. And I'd expect these clubs are offering better wages than us, Wrexham as far I've been told paying what would be top league 2 wages to certain players. It's clear from Sparks and Adams the club have generated their own January cash pot from Crankshaw and the extra ticket sales that weren't budgeted for. How far this goes in an inflated January market remains to be seen but I'd doubt it would bring in the quality needed and we are more reliant on Adams scouts to pick up value for money. Time will tell.

Wasn’t really a question of worth, if I’m honest I’ve not seen enough of him compared to some I’m sure.
I was more wondering what you’d been drinking if you thought or even dreamed we’d be bidding 6 figures for players!

I would think , that the money available will be spread over at least 4 players, maybe more if we can get some of the deadwood out of the door in Jan.

Be interesting to see how Mark Howard does for Carlisle in goal this weekend. He's out of contract in January and they're desperate to sign him on a longer deal, club and fanbase. 6 clean sheets in 14 and fans comments saying they've been more of a unit with him in goal. He's 35, but that is no age for a goalkeeper.
