It's a great point that by just changing a striker we'd suddenly be top although I'd suggest Nahki Wells in this side would have us in the top three. Problem with that is that the chances created would have to fall to the 'new striker' when in truth it's a lack of goals from elswehere on the field thats a worry. We need to be looking at 2 or 3 players hitting double figures, this team simply doesn't have those sort of players in the squad.

I would agree but most said the results against Lincoln and Man U kids didn’t matter in the papa johns trophy and with that I agree.
But form is not easy to find and cannot be turned on and off like a tap. We need to start winning games and let’s hope it is this weekend. But another side from the dreaded top 6 so it’s likely a draw

You say we are nowhere near Exeter, location?, I will give you that.

Football wise, apart from extra time last night, we have more than matched them in each of the 3 games over 90 minutes. If we had Matt Jay instead of them, we would have probably won all three games

Northampton come into this game with the meanest defence in the league, keeping 9 clean sheets from16 league games. They have only been trailing once at half time all season (leading in 4 of the last 5 at half time), failing only to score in 3 of 16 games. The flip side is 3 away defeats from 8 but with no Cook or Angol, an inept midfield in terms of scoring and a defence more than capable of an error or two, the Omens certainly don't look good.

Sorry to clarify I meant points wise in the league. 3 wins away which we don’t look like getting back to back

Never mind Nahki Wells, I think that even a Peter Thorne in the current side would have seen us closer to where we'd like to be than we currently are. I do agree that the lack of goals across the team is currently a major hindrance, though. Unless they get very lucky in the January window and unearth a veritable goal machine for 2022, it's going to take a few windows to put right. As I don't see any of the current squad suddenly changing their ways and improving the goals scored column.

We don't have the money to buy a Matt Jay. But we. Don't need to spend money apparently as Del boy gets his teams promoted with magic beans and cash found down the back of the sofa.

Honestly, was anyone surprised that we didn't progress in the FA Cup? I posted a few days ago that I don't go into any game feeling confident we'll win.

The reason for the current malaise is far simpler to explain than exploring the science of xG.

Quite simply, it's the same as in previous years - we just aren't good enough - from top to bottom.

I bet Angol's red card doesn't get rescinded though if the game is void and they have to play again. If they did use 6 subs, the tie should be awarded to us, especially as it was 0-0 still when they brought on the 6th sub.

How on earth did the officials not realise though?

Only way they can get round it I think is if they say it’s a concussion sub?

I’d have thought have we will go through to the next round. I can’t see Bradford agreeing to play the tie again.

Brilliant news, we will definitely be re-instated into the FA Cup now, whether that's in the form of a replay or direct progression to the 2nd round. Obviously the latter would be preferred, but either way, we're still in it!

Kick em out I say, broke the rules then throw them out of the competition. A bit ironic that the Exeter manager was quoted as saying in the Football league paper that he didn’t agree with 5 subs. Didn’t realise he actually wanted 6.

But isn't that what Adams has been saying all along? He knows we don't have enough scorers in the side and will hopefully address that in the next window if possible.

Exactly. An awful reflection on the officials. Even more so when you realise that Exeter might have broken two elements of the rules. Not just the sixth sub but the rules also state that five subs can be made in three "opportunities". Our five subs fell in line with this, but it appears (judging by the Sky Sports App - I wasn't one of the 76!) that Exeter made six subs over four/five different opportunities.

    Not really.

    It's a lagging indicator (I.e. Based on what's happened in a match/matches) not a future predictor.

It doesn't take into account injuries, transfer windows, changes to managers, even changes to formation or players.

None I can find for using an extra sub, but we were thrown out in 2012 and re-instated for fielding an illegible loan player.
