Players taking the knee

So do we all. It's important to judge where we are in more general terms though. Priorities.

It'll never be non existent. Sadly. And it occurs in all areas of the population, and across all cultures. I've seen and experienced at first hand, white people being victims on the basis of their skin colour - I'm not trying to point score, just saying that it happens.

I personally think that a huge amount of progress has been made over the last 20 years, but that's not to say that more isn't needed. That said, my own view is that issues of class and poverty have a far greater impact on far more people, and that these factors have a greater impact on ethnic minorities than terms such as systemic racism and subconscious bias.

 

Read the whole of that post back, you didn't write you lot, you wrote 'i know what you all say behind closed doors.' You all encompasses a lot of people, when in reality you have absolutely no idea what people say in their own privacy. is this 'you all' the same as the billions of chinese that have somehow been offended by Dave from Bradford?

 

I'm sure I saw something recently that claimed the word 'curry' as being 'racist' on the basis that is was a lazy and generic term that diminished understanding of the breath of Asian cuisine. It strikes me that for every genuine issue that's demonstrably problematic and obstructive in terms of race there are many more that are seeking to find problems that aren't really there and take offence on behalf of others. Its that part of the race discussion that risks causing harm and standing in the way of difficult but necessary discussion.

 

They have to keep thinking of more ways to feed the monster.

 

I’m one of the 28.1% category but I am not about to boo players taking a knee.

 

I haven’t voted as there isn’t an option saying it is upto the players

 

on the flip side only a third think it should definitely stop. So twice as many don’t think it should definitely stop

 

I'm amazed that we are even thinking of defending these points.....

completely valid points which don’t argue to say racism isn’t real but that there are real issues regardless of race. Education and intervention are always welcome on the sides of the potential offender or potential arrester/judge

I voted not sure in lieu of that option being available. What the players choose to do is entirely a matter for them, and if they want to continue, I'm fully supportive. Equally, if they don't want to continue because they feel it's run it's course then that's fine as well. I think part of the message itself is about listening to and valuing people of colour more in society, so letting players who are minorities take the lead seems the most sensible course to me.

 

You don't need to educate me, I am aware of what you have written.
As RT said earlier this thread has run its course but, you and a few others seem intent on keeping it going.

Always makes me laugh when people moan about threads continuing but posting again, thus continuing the thread. If you dont want to carry on just walk away rather than making a departure announcement

 

This is an interesting point. I think Lineker or someone said if you boo you are booing your club. It follows therefore that if the players are taking the knee then they representing everyone at the club including the supporters. When Lincoln players decided not to continue with the knee they gave a statement giving their reasons and opened a link for feedback. This implied that if others at the club disagreed with their stance they would reconsider.

There's been nothing like this at city. We started taking the knee, then stopped for a bit and then started again. I can't find any statement as to why they stopped or as to why they started again. Maybe this suggests that we're merely following others or caving in to peer pressure. Maybe the players feel strongly about it but have decided not to share. Who knows.

Its a nonsense to suggest that the players can act unilaterally on this and it's no business of any one else associated with the club. Maybe if we followed a more transparent approach such as that adopted by Lincoln we would be more likely to get a more unified response than the ones expressed on this thread.

 

This is worthy of pursuing, although it's bound to die a death naturally given time, it has to...

 

Would it be more unified? They ask for feedback and some say do it, some say don’t, some say don’t care. Do they just have a third do it, a third not do it and a third half do it?

 

That is hardly a statistically valid sample- though.
