I don't really understand the booing. Are people booing the players for doing it, the club for it's stance on it, the fact that it's been going on too long (or did the booers boo from the beginning, and if not, at what point and why did they start booing?) or the whole concept in general? It confuses me. Same way people boo during the other teams national anthems - what's that all about? Same way some people whistle or jeer during a minutes silence. I always thought that must be tourette's, because otherwise why would some people do it? In my opinion, if you're booing - then you're taking part and acknowledging the fact that you don't agree with it. And in this case, it's do do with racism - so does that mean you don't agree there's a problem, or you're against people trying to highlight that racism exists. As I said, confuses me. I

If you are booing you are either (a) racist or (b) a bit thick or (c) both.

Most of the time its bigotry, stemming from white “repressed” people not liking minority
groups being millitant to combat severe racism in the US.

but for some reason, when the FA, Gareth Southgate and many many other people within football say it is NO WAY INVOLVED WITH BLM OR ANY POLITICAL MOVEMENT.
they somehow still think that either all these people are lying in some form of marxist scheme (no offence to footballers but i cant imagine those who gain the most from a capitalist system would want to get rid of it) or being coerced by someone. Who that person or group is i would like to know. I do think it would make sense for this group to manipulate people with actual power like governments but hey ho.

end of the day i just think the people who boo are just bigots.

@1975citygent@1975citygent is correct, the chant did happen during the early to mid 1970's in the Bradford End aimed at Ces Podd, the actual words were zigger zigger zigger city's got a ni***r, and the other chant quoted by @Bantam-in-Greece@Bantam-in-Greece was something like zigger zagger, zigger zagger, oi oi oi x2. zigger, zigger, zigger zigger zigger, oi, oi oi,
I must add that the chant aimed at Ces Podd was not in anyway hostile, it was more of an endearment.
It was wrong i know but that's how it was in those days.

Judging by the widespread applause and no booing at today's match, it seems most fans who attended today are supportive of taking the knee.

I can't say I remember the racist chant then again I can't remember what I had for breakfast, I do recall a chant going around in that era that IMO was equally as bad and offensive, and that was about a certain Harry Roberts being our friend because he killed coppers.

Mods @Dennis@Dennis close this waste of time of a thread.

If you went to the match today or all season we know this isn't a debate.

I applauded their right to take it but am not really supportive of it as a gesture if that makes sense.

No one is making you post in or read this thread. It has a right to exist-so just toddle back to the days match thread and keep making me laugh.

That is the point though. You may not realise but what it does is inspire conversation and debate. The fact there is a thread about taking the knee and then racism.

there is little that can be done beyond magic that can stop racism tomorrow. But if anything can be done to help stop it, it should be done.

The debate was there before the knee and will be there after the knee has been consigned to the history books. You want change, then take real action, not sympathic gestures that make people feel all fuzzy and warm inside but actually do little to understand the how racism manifests itself and how to allow society to deal with the problem. That said I have no problem with the players making their own decisions.

Let me be clear, I don't agree with any booing of any anti-racist action.

However, just because they say it doesn't mean that you can dissociate a symbol from where it evolved from. The kneeling DID start in connection with BLM in America and was then adopted here. We might have moved away from using those particular words after the initial political problems were flagged up but they can't change where it did evolve from. In some ways they'd be better of changing the action at the start of the games to remove any connection whatsoever, you'd then take away any political reasons for the booing entirely.
