I’m glad he said the aim is promotion and is happy to put that pressure on himself and the players, at least those already here and to come in know what is expected if you’re at this club.

McCall used to always play it down, talk about a lot of good teams in the division, we have our targets in the dressing room etc. None of that rubbish straight to the point, from the owner right down to the fans should all know and be able to open talk about the seasons objectives.

It’s not so much that been nice on the eye is a problem, but more nice to play against.

One game which people might not remember as well as me that season was Wykes debut against Gillingham. We were 2-1 up in the second half new striker has scored and everything is rosy. The ball went out of play for a Gillingham throw near our technical area, at 2-1 up McCall fetched the ball and threw it straight to their player to take a quick throw from, 15 seconds later we were picking the ball out of our net and it was 2 points dropped. I still can’t believe how little people in the stands and on C & B made of it, it was one of the most sporting but pathetic gestures I’ve seen. A Parkinson or Adams would have kicked it away maybe even instructed the ball boys to hold onto it a bit longer when leading, not let them take a throw before the players have time to set up.
