Match Thread Away V Newport Tue 9th March. 7pm kick off.

we as a whole we’re not poor. Newport were far poorer , yet two flukes won it. We should have put it to bed before the free kick.

 

Think that's a result that's been coming for a few weeks, albeit we absolutely threw that game away. We're a team who sits on 1 nils which is a criticism I have of T&S because again tonight we created absolutely nothing. Two chances in the game handed to us by Newport is a poor showing especially after Saturday's attacking performance.

Lessons learnt though, Rowe isn't a 10 and Clarke simply isn't good enough.

 

Harsh RT seeing as at 83 mins or so we were walking this game. Anyway we lost so lets go again and redouble our efforts over the coming weeks to get that coveted 7th place which we can get to.

Cooke was clearly fatigued and needed the rest-as the management team clearly alluded to. He should be a much bigger influence on games from now on.

 

Cruel in what sense?

 

I'm not sure I would say cruising. Lots of possession and neet football in neutral areas left us potentially exposed on the counter attack or a mistake of our own. Corners which we could do with mixing up a bit. Seem very similar in punting towards the back.

Beyond the goal we scored from a Newport mistake , I'm struggling to remember us testing their keeper

 

True that, a very one dimensional lummox, Rowe had them second guessing all night with his clever play.

Can't play without your best players. Without him we created next to nothing, we only scored off a Newport Howler. Can we put tonight down to fatigue?

 

My mistake

 

Why punch a ball I your area with 30 seconds to go if your not a keeper?

 

He shouldn't have had to make a penalty save, not the best result but at 1 - 1 it was a decent point.

Would we have scored from open play without another poor defensive lapse from Farquharson.

Which game were you watching.

 

Tonight might do us good. Our performances with the ball haven’t been as good as our form suggests. Our midfield and wide players need to buck their ideas up a bit.

 

You know when you are writing, disappointed you sometimes forget the obvious.

Beyond that excellent long ranger, we didn't do enough in that final third. Not a criticism but needs a bit of tlc to get it going again.

 

I would, they looked awful and we were untroubled and on top. Until the self destruct button was pressed.

 

You conveniently ignored the fact that for at least 83 mins we were ahead away from home. Solid in defense and keeping them from any decent shots on target. Cooke being on the pitch would not have stopped Dolan scoring or Sutton stupidly raising his arm to give the pen away.

 

The defensive and pragmatic approach taken by T&S makes a lot of sense and you can’t argue with the results we’ve had. But we need to be better with the ball. Top 3 has to be the aim next season and to achieve that, we need to impose ourselves on the game and create more. The only 2 real chances we had tonight were both presented to us by the opposition giving the ball away outside their own box.

 

Very unfortunate to get nothing from the game but yet again we created next to nothing and faded badly. It's interesting to see how distinctly average many of our January signings look now.

 

For all the great work tonight, and let’s be honest Newport spent 75% of the game chasing shadows and appealing to the ref, it the onion bag that counts. Flynn must think it’s Xmas!
