If Doyle stays we are going to need cover. If he leaves we are going to need a first choice goalkeeper and cover. Either way, we need adequate backup goalkeepers. As for your second point, that could be the case although your logic isn't consistent with the rest of our signings. For example, A winger is more of a priority in our current squad than a CB. We've signed two Centre Backs and no wingers. How do you explain that one? The most likeliest explanation is that we've spoken to a number of Left Backs and a number of Right Backs and Riley happened to be the one we got over the line first.

I can attest to him being particularly sure about things generally

WE do need adequate back up but we can only look at the quality of that back up when Doyle decides what he is doing. I wouldn't feel comfortable bringing in a number 2 now if Doyle leaves and we replace with an inferior keeper.

I think with more game time Hiwula would score more goals and I would have him back. However...he needs to be playing with players who can see a pass. I have said this many times on this board. Hiwula ( and to a lesser extent McNulty) became increasingly frustrated. Every game both both would make runs beyond the defence and into space, only to see Law, Cullen et al playing tippy tappy little triangles before running sideways across the pitch to try and find Marshall.
People on here also used to talk about the number of chances Hiwula missed, but we had no-one else in the team with the positional nouse or pace to get anywhere near those chances. I would have him back.....I would also have brought him on at Wembley. Just my opinion of course

Why would Doyle leaving have any impact on the quality of our backup keeper? A number 2 goalkeeper is a number 2 goalkeeper. Regardless of who's first choice, we should be looking for someone who's relatively cheap and who can step up every now and then and do a job. That doesn't change if Doyle is here or not.

When he played for Burton (in the season we got promoted), he played predominantly at right-back

It's translated that the transfer fee is not known as 'How tall she was is not known', which is
He was a good player, as shown by the fact he still managed to get 10 goals despite the fact he'd struggle to finish his breakfast. It wouldn't be the end of the world if we signed him but I think he's a bit too wasteful and we could do better.

I'm not sure tracking a particular player for over a year is a sign of a lack of planning or strategy at all... whether you agree with the strategy or not, it's clear there is one. To imply we're signing players haphazardly is a bit bizarre

You've take the post out of context. When i said that "there is no planning or strategy behind it" it was in relation to the way the poster had described our recruitment "we are addressing areas of concern first" or words to that effect. Chances are we speaking to a number of players in a number of positions and whoever we sign first is purely through chance. I'm sure there's plenty of planning and strategy in our recruitment, but not necessarily in the order we bring them in.

From our side, anyone heard any rumours about Wyke? Doesn't seem keen to extend his deal currently.

Looks like (if we get Leigh) the defence is sorted. Two keepers, a right winger, attack minded midfield player and one more striker (two if Mardy arse goes)

We may have to go out and buy a keeper if Doyle goes and the only alternative may be a back up loan. Or maybe said back up will be more willing to come if 'number 1' isnt as challenging to oust.

Lots of factors to consider. We arent playing FM.

So, to clarify, we haven’t yet announced the squad numbers for 2018/19, so it isn’t yet known if they are 1st team squad members or if they will go back to the squad they were actually signed for

Your quite right mate he was another January panic buy, as we had no backup for Charlie Wyke, who looked like he'd also gone on strike.
