I absolutely agree with where you are coming from, but the financial investment needed to get the VP pitch (and let's face it the whole ground) to the standard to allow under soil heating to be a viable proposition would be eye watering. Water logging is the main issue and to try and resolve Midland road would need to be totally demolished, all its foundations and the surrounding road removed and a new drainage system put in place before putting back together. Would be cheaper to relocate and start again, if the club owned the venture, of course.

Literally said this three posts above that comment try to keep up pal. Just trying to get a dig in when you can eh?

also that wasn't my reasoning stop putting words in my mouth. Absolute carps on here.

“£50,000. 100% what a pathetic club. Didn't try at all. Such a tinpot national league side.

jokes aside, didn't think scunny needed a fine second time round either. Both us and them tried to get these games going. The first postponement they just stuck covers on!”

There must be another reason why the pitch is so bad, It has had the drainage done 3 times now with GR arranging a complete replacement of it and channels under the Midland road stand to help drainage, This plus two other drainage schemes and hundreds of tons of fibresand having been done and still the pitch is a problem, Relaying and seeding every season does not help as it never gets chance to bed in before been ripped up by playing on it, Years ago it won an award as the best pitch in the division but with another groundsman team,

Only one game in League Two on and that is Bolton V Stevenage, I assume that given that it is a relatively new build and they did have over a decade in the Premiership, that the pitch will be of a high grade and if not under soil heating, then high quality protection.

Bolton is a PL pitch with under soil heating and a Desso construction like all other PL pitches. No comparison to other L2 pitches and apart from heavy snow before KO they should always be in a position to play.

With respect Trevor I don't think your comments can apply to the pitch this season. There have been no problems with water despite heavy rainfalls and there is no wear even in goal mouths. The pitch had some sand on it before the Barrow game but that will be washed in. If you watch the games you will see generally there is no bobble on the ball and as I've said on another thread I believe we have one of the better surfaces outside the PL. You only have to watch games, eg Barnsley, Exeter, Harrogate, Southend and many more to see how much better VP is.

We've spent considerable sums over the years relaying the pitch and recently replacing the surface drainage. But none of that would resolve the fundamantal issue of the impact of the original and underlying impermeable base of the pitch area which has been exacerbated by the foundations for the E and W stands. When ML was here, the STRI recommended some kind of underground survey of the deep material underneath the pitch but because of the costs involved, that never went ahead. Instead, money was used on a regular basis to resolve the pitch surface without tackling the real problem. Rahic was given similar advice but again preferred to sort of the pitch surface and the surface drainage without getting to grips with where the water goes after it has been drained (quickly) from the surface. The playing surface itself does appear to have improved over the last couple of seasons but I suspect the relaying of the surface will continue to be a regular event.

If we really wanted to resolve the pitch drainage issue permanently, it will take shed loads of money in surveys and remedial work to do that. As you suggest, that's money we don't have.

This one of the longest cold snaps i can remember, don't think anything bar a domed roof would have saved todays game.

I read all the time on here, people complaining that this or that is not right at the club.
So why don't we as fans try and do something about it. Why not a fund to help with things like new covers for the pitch or to help get a bit of hot wter in the toilets. I dont give any credence to the argument that the owner is a multi millionaire. He is only the current custodian , one of many during my time watching the club , non who have really had the desire to really invest, and i hopefully will still be here long after Mr Rupp has left. Did one of the Dundee clubs supporters groups , recently donate a large sum to keep the club going.
We get season tickets for a pittance , £1 a week from 10000 fans , raises £520,000 a year . That could go a long way in making things better.

Complaining about wanting fecking hot water in the toilets... That's complaining??????????? Unbelievable

The club can pay for this basic necessity.

I did suggest it should have been done in our Premiership days we had little problems generating finance for the new infrastructure.
If we had been able to have a longr stay in the Premier League I'm not sure using your about comment would have gone down too well with the powers that be even if they are correct which I'm not doubting.

The supporters groups have made sizable contributions to the club, The pitch sprinkler system, The lighting rigs and even goal nets and other things the club needed were bought with supporters money not to mention the 15k donated by them to improve the training pitches

The club purports to be a professional business and there should therefore be no need for a begging bowl to be handed around. The solution is a simple one. Put season ticket prices up to a realistic level and for the club to persuade the supporters why that is necessary.

Which on reflection I'm personally disappointed with, all the hoo-ha and digging of extra foundations to take it I was under the impression it would be far bigger that the one we have.
