Maybe that popularity makes him a good coach, good cop, but not the main man. Listening to the Paddy Kenny podcast on under the cost (funny by the way) its all Warnock and Stuart doesnt get a mention.

For whatever reason the recruitment and perhaps the type of character identified has been a big failing and perhaps that more connected dof type could be the answer.

Or is it really just a more savvy main man , manager, and Stuarts real level is as a No 2

 

Maybe that’s the problem.Can do good cop but either he or his no2 can’t do bad cop.Just can’t see him blowing his top at a player.Players a bit too comfortable?

 

Agreed, Bit too nice / honest / relaxed for his own good .

 

Not an issue if you got a right hand man that can do the bollockings but if you haven’t then that’s trouble.Footballers aren’t daft.They know what they can get away with.They don’t make mistakes on purpose but they know that the chances of a dressing down are slim if it’s a bit too nicey nicey.

 

If the announcement is giving McCall an extra year that would upset me far more than Sparks being CEO.

I have always thought that this was the case from his first permanent spell in charge, he just hasn't made the full transition from one of the boys to the manager.

This probably is one of the reasons why he really starts to struggle when things go against him and he cannot turn things round.

I don't actually disagree with you, although this is a tad ironic as it is exactly what Rahic tried to implement.

There is no argument though that McCall's best spell for us has been when he was more the Head Coach rather than a manager.

 

Do you think anyone, footballers included, amazingly become better at their jobs because someone shouts at them? I think that's widely been debunked as a successful leadership strategy now.

I am not saying that, occasionally, it wouldn't be merited but being able to hold players to account for their performances is about way more than shouting at them, and it does appear that McCall struggles with this. Maybe it's because he is too friendly with them, or maybe he just doesn't have the ability to do it in his character.
