Maynard is 33 not 90. He has been scoring goals regularly and we want a goal scorer now not next year or the year after.. yes it would be nice to have a younger player coming through as well but We lost Vaughan an experienced striker we now need another

 

No. We need a goal scorer not an experienced striker. We already have two experienced strikers and Guthrie (whatever category he fits in).

I agree with your point that we need to replace Vaughan's goals but that doesn't mean we need another 30+ year old striker.

 

But was that great Tingley given how the team was set up? Offensively the majority of the time we were poor as Bowyer set his teams up defensively - is that because of suspect defenders?

 

Maynard on a two year contract helps get us up this coming season and he's around to help us consolidate in league one .

 

When you are inviting pressure for most of the game as we were last season, even a decent defence will struggle at times.

 

I said this to Park the other day; imo, we would be mad to offer him a 2 year deal on what would be a decent whack (because there's no way he'd even consider us if it wasn't). He's made it public he would prefer a club closer to his home. Have we learnt nothing?

Last time he played L1 football he managed just 2 goals. Madness to give a 33yr old with that record a two year contract.

 

I’d rather take a punt on a young lad on loan. At least there’s an element of the unknown, a chance he might just flourish, rather than a has been. Tired of journeymen strikers plodding round the pitch, picking up a pay cheque, not arsed about being here and/or not able to run. Surely one of our Yorkshire neighbours has a young lad who needs games to test himself out.
