I'll own up it's me who wanted Connolly back. A couple of years back I also spent a lot of time on here singing the praises of Hiwula. I did also defend Chicksen but maybe I got that one wrong!
The thing is someone with Connolly's pace makes things happen. I don't even see him as just a winger. Yes I agree he could be a bit of a headless chicken but even if he isn't scoring or assisting directly, he panics defences and creates space and opportunities for others. With regards to Hiwula, i think he was our top scorer even thoughhe was regularly dropped after scoring!. Like someone said, maybe Stuart just didn't fancy him.......or was it tied to appearance bonuses

Mate, you don't need to own up. It wasn't a secret, everyone knew it was you. You're persistent though, I'll give you that!

I think people are underestimating how a player with pace can change the dynamics of a game. It makes the defence second guess itself, can't just push up to the half way line because of the threat of the ball over the top. Parkinson used it to great effect in league with with Wells, a fair few of his goals were because he panicked defenders into mistakes by chasing a lost cause.
For Connolly to be effective though he has to develop a 'football brain.' No good having pace and just being a headless chicken.

maybe....and I accept it's a maybe...his football brain and decision making could be worked on and improved. The one thing you can't do is turn a cart horse into a race horse. For me he did enough last season to be worth a punt

I don't think you can work on the brain side of it, you've either got it or you haven't. In Connolly's case on the positive we have bags of enthusiasm and probably as quick as i've seen at Valley Parade. On the negative there was very little end product and he's a bit of a one trick pony. Would i want him back? The fact i'm indecisive suggests no but under McCall who knows. My worry if used as a winger is where will the end product come from?

Question for you all which would you prefer Connolly or DMH both similar in what they do and how they play but which one would be the better option. For me Connolly because I see him chipping in with a few goals and can also be played more centrally if required however it seems Stu sees DMH as the better of the two.

Hasn't the choice already been made by Stuart resigning DMH?
If we do sign another winger, I'd much rather we go all out to get Roberts.

He'll also count as a 'club developed' player. I know we have Staunton as part of the full squad now who will also fulfil that criteria but DMH gives Stuart another option.

Can't see us going into a new season with Henry, Pritchard and Ismael as our 3 wide men. Surely another is added by hook or by crook

McCall still has links with the rangers set-up?

Who knows, but he did bring in wideman Middleton last season.

If he can get some loans that are half way decent that would help alot.

Doubt City can get Oteh again, i thought he was ok- neither good nor gash but if we were going one up top he would flourish out wide.

The bit I've seen of DMH he not been one I'd have resign, then again we are not in normal times, let's hope Stuart has seen something in the short time working with him that he thinks he can improve on.

I'd like to hope if McCall was the leading factor behind Middleton signing, while Bowyer was still manager, we wouldn't have been silly enough to let Vaughan go and sign Guthrie in a panic on the back of Boywer's opinion.
