    Other teams will be in similar situations Colchester for instance are unable to offer contracts to three of their better players Scunthorpe also have had to let all their out of contract players leave and it’s a theme across the division midfield was the area we particularly struggled in last season if we recruit well there we can do ok next season

    This makes no sense. Didn't we let all our out of contract players leave also?

    We've offer ROD a contract but that means nothing until it's signed because we could have offered him a midget for a year for all we know.

    Also as many have pointed out only Wood from the current players is worth keeping, so it will take more than a new midfield for us to have a chance next season. For a start Gurthie, Novock, Donaldson and to a certain degree Vaughan lack pace. We don't have a RB and the CB's we have are rubbish.

    I think this discussion/speculation is pointless until after the EFL meeting today. I have a really bad feeling about the start of a new season and the salary cap proposals, not through any knowledge just through the complete out of touch actions of the EFL over recent times. Hope I'm wrong but very little confidence.

    I'm with you on this one mate. It's certainly not the time for fans to be thinking we're in a better position that this club because we don't know. The just stupid.

    Would you hold of the salary cap for next season though?

    As for the start date, the question still is how is the testing going to be paid? I know the EFL have asked the PL for 250m but I doubt that he PL will give them that money as already talk of the top 7-10 clubs pulling out of the league cup.

    Then now you've local downs are a strong possibility. Plenty to talk about today but they need to get it right because league 1 & 2 are getting left behind.

    You can counter balance Colchester and Scunthorpe with the likes of Mansfield and Salford.

    It depends on the players left at Colchester and Scunthorpe. Yes they may have a glut of Centre halves and older forwards. To be absolutely honest I don’t know.

    Read this thread and posters make reference to strikers and centre halves as possible targets. We have no recognised right back and are bereft of central midfielders.

    Yes we ‘could’ recruit well, but equally it could be a disaster. On balance if we say a middling outcome is most likely, then that would be a balanced position. Out of 24 teams only 3 get automatic promotion, so statistically the odds are against us.

    We have these ‘four juniors’ being promoted to the first team. Does anyone know anything about them? Four seems an exceptionally high number. Danny Devine and George Sykes-Kenworthy were released by the club, and both were products of the same junior system.

    When was the last time any of our junior players, progressed into the first team and went on to have a very successful career? The last two Colebeck and O’Brien, both failed to progress their careers very far, and that is well over a decade ago.

    If O’Donnell signs we have a keeper probably the best left back in the division we will sign a right back. Then we have enough central defenders who are decent at this level. Look at the league table we conceded 40 last season out of the four promoted teams two conceded 39 one 40 and Northampton 44 so defence was a match for any other
    Going forward from there was a problem but if we can bring in four decent players it will make a big difference like most of the teams we will have a small squad and will need luck with injuries and suspension but there is absolutely no reason we can’t have a good season

    Spot on this.

    4 youth players being promoted to the 1st team squad is a lot and the club are not even saying their names. The club were quick to say that 4 youth players are getting promoted which highlights to me that we don't have any money.

    I accept that the recruitment has to be right this year and it isn’t going to be easy but most of the division are in the same boat as for Mansfield and Salford we were all saying the same thing last year and look what happened to them.
    There is no need for absolute pessimism just yet

    What is the point of having a youth system if young players who do well are not given a chance we will have a much smaller Squad next season and I presume the young lads will only be called upon in the case of a long injury list. The EFL are also talking about bringing a rule in where Squads in the lower league have got to have a quota of homegrown players

    Come on, that is a reasonable and fair response. For all the reasons I have stated, which are the fours:-
    • Four ageing/unconvincing strikers.
    • Four centre backs, two unproven.
    • Four ‘unnamed’ juniors.
    • Four gaps in central midfield.
    Then there must be a lot of concern that with only four/five players coming in, that we will be able to create a cohesive, robust and successful team.

    AOC has shown that he’s good enough at this level. BRE was genuinely excellent at the start of the season but then faded badly. Don’t think they are the worst CB pairing in the world tbh, not the best as well mind you, but signing a proper DM will help us out massively at the back. How Bowyer signed 20 players and didn’t bother to bring one in is beyond me.

    See I have never heard you flying the flag for youth players to be in the squad. You know nothing about them or who they are yet you now finding a reason in a positive way for them to be included.

    4 youth players is a lot. We're not saying they will be training with the squad and going from them. We are saying that they are part of the 1st team squad full stop.

    If Bradford City said I was playing for the club at least I know one fan will be positive about it and make excuses for me! Time to get the boots out..Thanks mate.

    Watching the Northampton game last night, made me realise how shit our squad is. They had two commanding centrebacks, a very decent forward (albeit on loan from Brom) and the luxury of bringing on Mark Marshall as a sub, who provided an assist and multiple crosses. The only comparison I took from this game, is that in our team, we made Nicky Law look good. Sometimes.
    And they aren't even a MASSIVE club!
