    False lie to yourself?

Football has it's up's and downs but a club can't improve if it doesn't understand it's downs.

It's not about being negativity it's about seeing how it really is.

So have I but behind closed doors?, if so we might as well have played out the season but with the EFL nothing surprises me. In reality we have to have fans in stadiums for the revenue. As has been said elsewhere, despite what we may say about our club it is undeniable that we provide a big pay day to many clubs when we visit with our following. Just like Sunderland, Plymouth and others. If I were a club owner I would not fancy seeing a fixture list with City at my ground behind closed doors.
Then there is the question of testing costs. Then the question of taking players off furlough for pre-season training, when?. Then there is the question of new signings/contracts and a likely salary cap which from my other post I am fearing won't be high enough to feed the club cat.

I really am fearing today and if I'm right with my fear, I fear the future of L1 & 2 football by the actions of an authority which has shown no track record of pragmatic leadership over recent months, in my personal opinion.

On the cost of coming back from furlough, sounds like the Sunderland players and staff have all been told this morning they will stay on the furlough scheme until August 31st to try help costs. Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of clubs announce similar structures over the next few days/weeks. Really fear for the future of a lot of L1 and lower clubs futures.

We conceded so few because for 3/4s of the season we had a manager that didn't know there was two halves to a football pitch.

No money coming in mate and really clubs might as well keep everyone on Furlough until October problem which @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler didn't put on his list is the transfer deadline. PL want it to be October but EFL clubs Jan. This is a massive issue because the season can't kick off teams don't have squads but pointless starting without fans either.

I said League 1 and 2 ended the season too early because nothing will change in September and looks like I am getting proven right. The same question comes up...Who is going to pay for testing? Not testing for 9 games but for about 50-60 games.

We beat Chelsea also. Doesn't mean we should be competing for a Champions League spot. Unfortunately, there's 23 teams in our division, not just 2.

See Mansfield have continued in their strong rebuild, in signing a very decent keeper in Marek Stech, added with Torquay's hot shot Jamie Reid. Hopefully by tomorrow we have a start date on the new season and can start our own rebuild.

On paper they look to be signing well but we said they and Salford were doing the same last season and look what happened both below us

We won’t know reality for next season until it happens we don’t know the team we don’t even know when the season will starts over the years sometimes when you have least expectations turn out to be great seasons. Let’s wait and see until we reach for the happy pills

City to vote against salary cap being brought in next season. Quite rightly too. We should vote against it for as long as possible. A club with gates of our size should not be restricted to make it “fair”. We should be using it to our advantage.

There is already a salary cap system in Divs 1 & 2 under the SCMP regime and it has been operating now for many years. The devil is in the detail though. The current cap is a function of gate revenues and unfortunately some other things which allows some owners to subsidise their clubs. Rather than voting against a new salary cap, we'd be better off encouraging others to maintain the simplicity of the SCMP regime but remove all of the loopholes which allows owners to subsidise their clubs. It's that which makes the lower leagues unsustainable in the future.

Perhaps have an EFL standardised accounts system, with transparency built in. Failure to provide them could include points deduction and a fine. Further none compliance perhaps leading to the threat of withdrawing membership of the EFL.
A system where failure to pay salaries would have an automatic deduction of one point for every week, which should avoid clubs paying salaries they cannot afford.

That was last season. And it now counts for nothing. They are moving the club forward at Mansfield. Appointed a good CEO in Sharpe and are signing players on the pitch so far, ahead of the curve on that one. We might not all agree with the signings but if they are the targets they want, they seem to be pushing the boat out a bit and getting it done early. I imagine they will do better this season.

Meanwhile we haven’t even decided what we are doing with last seasons season ticket money.
