Get a look at this from yesterday. Stupidity know no social class barrier. What is with down south around that there London? Is there summat in the water that makes folk oblivious to potential life saving advice?

He's not as big a bell as the last "journalist" who thought it important to ask if Jenny Harries had a second home and had she been to it recently.

Yes; that was a bad one. There are indeed similarities to the current epidemic, and lessons learnt that are still applicable.

My Aunt was working in the geriatric ward at West Middlesex hospital at the time, and caught it, recovered enough to get put back on duty, got complications, and recovered again. Thankfully there were suitable drugs around.

That virus also hit the elderly hard, particularly those with underlying lung conditions. She remembers one nearby Part 3 nursing home having 33 deaths in a week. But that virus also hit the heart. In conversations with various doctors afterwards, she learnt of one youngish couple where the husband stayed in bed and the wife continued with the housework, until one morning he awoke to find her dead beside him, and of an older woman who kept working but one day felt so weak she just lay down on her couch and didn't move. That saved her.

The moral of the story: be a hero if you have a cold, but be a wimp when you have the flu. Do as little as possible, stay at rest and eat out of tins as much as possible, until you're over the worst.

The things some people do despite the advice, the instructions and the warnings is just unbelievable. There is no limit to the stupidity and selfishness and lack of awareness of some people. How could anybody remotely justify their actions?

‘Its my one piece of exercise for the day’. Too many people are too preoccupied with ‘getting around the rules’ rather than seeing the instruction for what it is. A tougher lockdown is likely the only way people will listen.

And the irony is, where the police HAVE tried to impose the regulations more robustly, they get accused of being overbearing!

Ah yes, the notoriously austere area of Richmond. No doubt all of those involved are otherwise restricted to their confined bedsit environments. Maintaining their ‘daily exercise’ regime is crucial.

I understand how difficult it must be living in a built up area in a city like Bradford. It must be tempting to jump in a care to go to places like Fewston Bolton abbey and Grassington where we used to spend a lot of our free time. Some people like myself are far luckier in that respect

I listened earlier to Hancock and had some sympathy with his position. But I was concerned with his reaction to the acts of a relatively small but brainless proportion of the population and that was to possibly tighten the lockdown because of the unbelievable behaviour of these idiots. Given that the vast majority of the population is acting sensibly and reasonably, I'd hope that the focus of attention would be on 'encouraging' the mindless minority to change their behaviour by some kind of enforcement process rather than penalise further the majority of the population who continue to listen to the Govt's instructions. I hope his earlier statement was intended to shock the idiots into a change rather than it being a genuine threat to all of us.

I don't know about herd immunity, but we seem to be well on the way to herd stupidity.

I too am fortunate that I have a reasonable garden to sit in and enjoy, just a daily couple of mile walk and that's me done.
Unfortunately because of so many knobheads it looks like we will all be confined to barracks soon.

Not difficult from where i'm sitting Park, we've been told to obey a simple set of measures to hopefully help eradicate this virus. If that includes not visiting places like you mention then i'm more than happy to go along with it.

The problem seems to be the small minority is either getting bigger or was always bigger than a lot thought. Police turned people away from Malham Cove today from Leeds, Bradford, Keighley and Oldham.
Yesterday when I was in town there were a number of groups of people hanging around.

He comes across like a headmaster at school.
It's a small amount of people breaking rule concentrate and praise those that are working hard to stay within the rules.

He expects people to understand and give him time to get testing together but when a few mindless idiots break the rules he threatens to affect us all.

I just think he's out of his depth and just needs to stick to the NHS situation and delivering results.

I honestly do think he needs taking out of the lime light. He had the virus, unfortunately people he knows have died and frontline staff are not being looked after with some dying plus he has a 100k goal for testing to achieve. He's under extreme pressure and it must be tough.

For me he's just not coming across well at all. Hopedily he's listening to Rishi as well because Rishi will know if results are not delivered soon wirh testing that this lockdown could see many self employed etc breaking it.

I know, it's really getting out of hand now. We ordered a couple of bottles of our favourite 2018 Chablis. And what turned up? 2019 Chablis. Pah! Is there no end to this madness? ;)

Just a thought but London is a very different place to Bradford and indeed many places in the UK. Fortunately for me I can get to a riverbank through my garden and have a great walk with the kids if we want to. Yesterday for the first time on one of our walks we saw a dog walker on the same path. She stepped right off the path and out of the way as we passed. If I want shopping I've got a short hop in the car to a co-op, Lidl or Tesco that isn't overly busy. It's easy for me to social distance and possibly you if you're anywhere other than London.

Having lived in London for brief periods over the years I know how different it is there. The population density, the shared houses, the flats, apartments etc. There's millions of people squeezed in. It's not so easy for them. Going to a park for a walk would make it easier to be away from people rather than have everyone stick to the streets and paths. Now I'm not suggesting that there aren't people taking the piss and not doing the right thing in London. I'm sure there are several idiots just as there are in the Highlands, Seaside resorts, Bolton Abbey etc. The vast majority of people will be trying their best to do the right thing even if they're in their local park.
