Great point on the NHS. I'll try and dig out the graphic, but in terms of number of beds, ICU units, doctors and ventilators - relative to population size - the UK is in one of the weakest positions in Europe. Certainly behind Italy, France, Germany, Spain.

 

does some of it depend on how we count and define ICU beds? We have ICU and HDU, do those other countries have the same?

 

I just don't understand what you think wasn't clear in the messages he's giving across because it's blindingly obvious to me...

I've seen the pics but didn't see anything like that yesterday locally & I was outside cycling or walking, people were behaving responsibly apart from some oiks in McD's. I hope people stop being daft and let normal people enjoy beneficial exercise.

I'd be surprised if they are counted as the same, they don't have anything like the facilities of ICU. HDU is transient bed, from where a patient might go home, to a ward or very rarely, to ICU. Maybe the resusitation beds are counted the same as ICU?

 

Be interesting, he must surely be under huge pressure seeking another term with bodies about to pile up.

No, I don't know what the outcome will be like come June like I done know what it will be by the end of the week but we need to have a cut off point and with Boris saying the peak will be May - June after that I don't think not much Boris or anyone can do.

We can last like this forever and I think Boris understands this hence the talk of the curve and once we can control the NHS volumes I think it will be this is how it is.. be it June, September

 

Not sure. But looking at how funding in the NHS has been cut back for years and years, its not surprised that we're less equipped to deal with this crisis than many.

The head of Germany's public health institute has said there are signs the exponential upwards curve in new coronavirus infections in the country is flattening off for the first time.
Lothar Wieler, head of the Robert Koch Institute added it was a result of social distancing measures.
He said: "We are seeing signs that the exponential growth curve is flattening off slightly.
"But I will only be able to confirm this trend definitively on Wednesday."
He added he was optimistic that measures taken so far in Germany, including school closures, instructions on hand-washing and strict warnings against public gatherings, were already having an effect.

 

The Germans are a more disciplined nation than we are.

No sure unfortunate is the right word mate, maybe inconsiderate if were talking about the morons who took little notice of the governments advice and flocked to the coast etc.

A number of major high street retailers are closing for the duration. This may help - or it may make the situation worse. For those that have no intention of making the sacrifices needed, they'll probably just congregate in more dense numbers at the outlets that stay open.

I can't see any other measure than a lockdown. Probably easing off and then ramping up for ~3 months depending on infection rates and NHS pressures.

 

Then I'll explain for you. All their outlets had warning taped boxes on the floor, a distance apart, for people to stand/queue in. The kids were taking no notice as kids are want to do.

 

Why are estate agents still open? Why is it still possible for me to invest in property by calling an estate agent and get a viewing if I want too?

It's all too woolly and can't see anything but a full lockdown happening
