Genuine Q, why are people so obsessed with us testing people? Why in the grand scheme of things does it matter if we have exactly accurate numbers?

For example, if I get it i'm of the age where hopefully I can run it off in a few days, touch wood. Why waste resources and time by getting tested? I will self isolate and avoid contact with people.

Well one reason is if we don't test, then eventually we will have tens, possibly hundreds of thousands (or even millions) of people unnecessarily isolating themselves, when they could be back at work, contributing to getting the country back on its feet.

In this respect, I understand we are getting close to having an antibodies test that will indicate if you have had the virus (as opposed to a test that shows whether or not you currently have the virus), which will help in this respect. In the meantime I understand we are going to ramp up the current testing, with priority for key frontline personnel.

My reply was with regards hospital workers, as you say trying to test everyone would not make sense and would be virtually impossible.
Not sure how it could be done logically, they don't want groups/crowds of people and they certainly don't want us oldies mingling with you healthy young un's :(.

Yep and to put a nail in the coffin of the testing argument. Even if we could afford to, and had the timescale to produce results quickly enough to make a difference. It would not matter a jot, because we don't have enough testing kits.

Death ratios of 1% now being mentioned regularly, it was 3 or 4% very recently, maybe a 75% drop.

That 1% will include many who might well have been finished off by flu or "something". Should we throw everything at saving them whilst younger people (like you & Shoatsy) could lose your futures? Nope. Harsh l know.

Have you thought it through yet? more untrained people in hospital, more people to transmit the virus between each other. More people who are in the way and cannot do anything if someone goes into cardiac arrest etc. More people for overstretched sisters/consultants etc to manage when they are already snowed under as it is.
Then more to take it home to their families. Just what good would it do? Feels like you’re trying to point score. This is not the blitz. Let’s use some common sense.

one thing this has hopefully all highlighted is the Chronic underfunding in all public services and at times like this is gets worse obviously. Kids still going with no food except school meals. Paramedics going to jobs without the right resources. Police the same. And one reason I don’t think we will have a full lockdown is because the police couldn’t enforce it.

I am not a communist And not using this virus as point scoring but this country is supposed to be one of the richest on earth and this has to stop. The worry is once this has passed we will see more cuts, to pay for this time.

Did you not see the post I did the other day explaining how the teachers will still be teaching?

Confirmed closing on Friday now and no end point in sight. There's a lot of very vulnerable children out there that have lost their safe space. Worrying times that won't be bettered by economical disaster.

I imagine it helps with lockdowns and finding out where the hot beds are. One looks like London but we just don’t know enough about it. Accurate and frequent testing would give us a better picture to know where we need to concentrate our efforts etc.

I highly doubt it’s in some villages in countryside for example but at the minute we probably cannot say for certain

My son was due to sit his GCSE exams soon. Now he and many others will miss out.

I hope they award grades based on his school work and mock results.

In many ways what happens now will define the lives of these emerging adults. I hope the teaching profession gets the decision right when awarding grades.

Mine too , we was paying for extra tuition outside of school and she was doing really well ... this will be for nothing if results are based on previous grades

This safe place for vulnerable children, sorry for appearing naive, but arent schools a place of learning?. Where do these vulnerable children go at weekends or evenings under normal circumstances, for their safe space?

Many don't have a safe place during those times. That's why school is so important for them.

I suspect they have, hence I said my naivety. My daughter is a teacher and she tells me its like being a social worker now too. Still dont get what happens to vulnerable children out of school hours though to ensure safe space

Thats very sad. I cannot imagine home not being a safe space. My heart genuinely goes out to children who dont feel secure and safe at home

That’s a massive issue. Trust me. I know at my school that some kids will be just roaming the streets when they get sent home on Friday.

That said, nearly half the staff were off in my school today. Been a nightmare. Don’t know what we will need to do for the vulnerable children. Got 24 hours to work it out.

    We'll it seems like they're wasting 3-12 months of their life's .

I can't see universities basing places on mocks.

Unfortunately, Boris was side stepping questions on education

It won’t be mocks. They will count as the results?
