Level Of Optimism For The Rest Of Season

Just a quickie guys/gals see Plymouth got nothing at Macclesfield tonight, points of the board are better than games in hand .

 

Unfortunately they grabbed a late goal.
Ten points clear of Bradford with a game in hand.
Stating the bleeding obvious but we need to start winning.

 

Thought they drew Bronco?

 

Yes just going through tonight's football results and saw they had grabbed an equaliser yet the BBC site said full time .

Our remaining games, based on current league standings, isn’t the easiest. Lots of teams to play who are in and around us. That said, I’d rather have it that way as it gives us the opportunity to take points off rivals rather than rely on others.

That said there needs to be an immediate improvement to our general approach to games, confidence and away form to stand any chance of play offs. One thing that’s clear is that despite what looked a decent enough back line at the beginning of the season, we aren’t going to be able to shut teams out. So reversing tactics and putting 5 at the back like Saturday, just won’t work. The old ‘defend from the front’ tactic needs to be our approach and fortunately now in Donaldson and Novak, we have two front men more than capable of playing this way. Connolly, DMH and Ismail (when fit!) will always give you a chance to use this tactic effectively and get up to support the front two, if they and others around them support and are well drilled on the part they play.

Aside of the back 4, I genuinely believe there’s enough in this squad to make the play offs. It’s a mindset of club, players and supporters, a reshuffle of way of playing and a severe growing of testicles of the playing squad that will get us there. Over to them to now apply themselves......

 

The problem is that everyone looks better than us fitter smarter, more team spirit, better tactics and seemingly better players and we have lost our goal threats......

 

I totally agree and have raised that point in seven postings. Clearly no one at the club takes any notice.

 

If you wanted a prize example of unfathomable mismanagement in football you would not have to look farther than the strange incident of disposing of Doyle and Vaughan and bringing in Guthrie all in a matter of days before sacking Bowyer and bringing in Stuart after the window had closed. If this was politics I’ve no doubt the man whose watch it was on, Julian Rhodes, would be asked to resign. The more I think about it, the more unbelievable it seems. That ghost ship that’s been floating around had more sense of purpose and direction.

 

You’d think it would be in the remit of the bright Sparks at the club, so to speak, to read all football forums of relevance not just plinky plonk on Twitter. In any case it’s one of those cases of if you’ve got to be told, you’ll never know!

 

And BIGGER than us!!

 

Yes, it's utterly bizarre. The 3-0 hammering at Oldham didn't happen in isolation. We'd been unconvincing all season, even when scraping wins, and utterly dire & demoralised for weeks. We were consistently doing poorly away and claiming moral victories for hanging onto fortunate home draws against mediocrities below us in the table, FFS! The supporters had clearly lost all confidence in Bowyer and were openly calling for him to go.
So Rupp and Rhodes must have been strongly contemplating the chop after the Mansfield debacle. To allow Bowyer to dispose of the two best strikers in L2 and replace them with journeymen just days before sacking him beggars belief. Whoever the replacement manager was, he should have been given the opportunity to play to the strengths of our best assets. Instead, he's been hamstrung from the start and he'll do well to get us in the playoffs with our current lack of firepower.

 

Does Big Rod signify any liking for Big Rodney Green in the way that Bronco references David Layne and other posters pay homage to McNiven, Hutchins and even good old Big Norm?

 

Yes you sum it up so well that it really demands a statement from the club but of course they are not bothering to read it.

 

Good bustling player who started at Halifax and we signed for 500 pound from the Avenue. He got kicked out of the match against Workington which had we won we would have gained promotion. We then sold him to Gillingham. Some years ago I was wandering through the Piece Hall in Halifax and bumped into him. Great bloke. At once stage Revie spoke very highly of Rod Johnson but sadly he never quite made the big time. If you remember him you are not exactly a spring chicken!!!
