Listening to Doyle now he’s back at Swindon just shows it was pointless trying to get him back and perform. He said he was desperate to go back and tried to persuade City not to recall him. No point keeping a player who’s heart wasn’t in it. We didn’t have him for the first half of this season apart from 2 scoreless appearances so it’s right for the club to move on rather than try and get an unhappy player to give his all.

 

Wellens figured out this league is poor and to try and attack it.

Getting his forward to concentrate on getting forward and into the box.

Bowyer doesn't do that.. that's we we are where we are.

But as I keep reiterating across various posts in various threads now, the fact is we took the division's top scorer (by a country mile) from the league leaders - and in ANY OTHER SITUATION, that would be the most remarkable signing of the season - the concern isn't that Eoin Doyle has now left Bradford City, is that we have

a) given the league leaders back the division's top scorer

b) couldn't get a tune out of the lad despite how prolific he has been

c) his form meant literally nothing whilst we were playing Bowyer Ball. We literally brought THE BEST STRIKER IN LEAGUE TWO back to the club, and he had one shot on target I think?

I'm not saying Doyle was ever going to score 20+ goals for us, because he was never going to. Unlike Swindon, we weren't going to change the whole team just to suit one player, and that's fine. But to fail to get a single goal out of him, fail to create more than 1 chance a game for him, to fail to play good football AT ALL while he was here is a MASSIVE concern.

People like @Bronco and @Park bantam are conveniently pretending I'm going back on what I previously said about Doyle. I'm not. He was baba last season, and I've had that argument umpteen times with all sorts of posters. They reckon because he was our top scorer, he played well. I didn't think so.

But I stopped being able to make a coherent argument for keeping Doyle at Swindon when he was single handedly firing them into League One and leaving us floundering. He had to be brought back, and was.

Now we've got rid of him again. Last season's top scorer, AND we even threw in THIS season's top scorer on loan to Tranmere.

We've now brought in a guy Scunthorpe think works hard but is crap. Great. If Doyle couldn't get any chances, he won't either. Nor will Agard, unless they're capable of conjuring things up entirely on their own, that is.

A bit over the top though, apparently he was asking to go back nearly every day, no wonder he didn’t perform, yet we are accused of being a joke of a club for not keeping him. He will have been terrible for team morale.

 

I can't claim to know the attacking set-ups of all the clubs he's played for. But whenever he's played for Wellens, who seems to know far more about how to get decent ball into the box than we do, he's scored for fun. Seems more than coincidence to me.

 

Oteh going back to QPR then?

 

Novak has scored more over the last two seasons than Doyle has for us. Anyway he has been brought in presumably for his hold up play and to bring others in something we have badly missed whilst Donaldson has been out

Nonsense stat. You either include goals for other teams, or just us. Either way, Doyle has scored more. A lot more.

it strkes me you are worrying about stuff before they have happened.

Doyle is not interested in us, so we were on a hiding to nothing with him.

The guys will get chances and having more physicality up front will create space and chances in itself. We need some more pace though granted.

 

Why is it alot of players are getting unhappy at the club, never know there to be so many unhappy players, bad times

 

If he does we have a serious lack of pace aside from Connolly.

No point having these big lunks like Donaldson and Novak to hoof it up to if there's no one to run fast after their knock ons.
