Hardly a selling point I know but don’t think there’s much out there who’s a free agent so to speak.

We need to be looking at managers in work and persuading them but can’t see it for a few reasons

You are implying that a Stuart was part of the unprofessional behaviour? I would find that hard to believe, there is only so much that a manager can do when the players have taken against the owners for whatever reason.

I've just written in another thread that Shrewsbury had to pay a 'considerable fee' for what they saw as the right manager in Paul Hurst from Grimsby. I'd say they were bang on with their investment.

Well it is noted that he was very much one of the lads.. the team was noticeably less fit than it was under PP..

It’s a managers job to ensure players keep focus on the pitch, this evidently didn’t happen

Only after talks with our new owners and seeing Edin's masterplan laid out- you left that bit out.

Yes PP took his fitness coach with him. I would agree they were not as fit, and I am not sure he was replaced.

I certainly don’t agree with you about focus. Stuart would never down tools, and your weak link ‘one of the boys’ is total rubbish. He most certainly had a different style of management which up until December 2017 had taken us to Wembley and top six in 2018. The top and bottom of our demise was the lack of quality within our squad, and no amount of changing managers was going to resolve. Edin refers to the same team was getting results before, failing to both acknowledge Stuart’s part in getting the best out of both young and more experienced players, and the lack of quality within our squad.

The quality of the squad wasn’t in question up until January so it can’t all be down to that. You can’t say stuart was the sole reason for us doing well but nothing to do with us being shit.. it’s easy to manage a team when all is going well. however the real skill is managing the team during a down turn, both times he’s been our manager he has not been able
To do this. He’s not totally at fault I’m not saying he is, however he has to take some blame..

I never suggested Stuart would down tools, however the players did and it’s his job to ensure that would not happen.. the Wimbledon result was the one for me that said his stint as manager was over, it was diabolical

Well that’s his decision, doesnt make my point any less relevant, a managers role is to ensure things off field are kept outside the playing squad and to not let them effect performances, this was not the case

Of course he takes some of the blame, but Edin cannot escape criticism either. The quality of our squad can be questioned whether you like it or not. Stuart was able to put out a good 11/12/13 players, but when nearly half the team went missing he was struggling big time, who wouldn’t. He tried using the stand by goalies, they most certainly wasn’t up to the job, the defence became nervous and we started to lose games. Yes we were unfortunate with injuries, but it happens. Probably down to a lack of a decent fitness coach, hope that is put right this season.

I do not think Stuart is without blame and no doubt he would agree. However no matter what your status is, all football managers need support from their Chairman, they need them to listen to their concerns, and act if possible, in any event issuing orders to the manager who took you to Wembley against all odds, is not supportive.

I think Edin knows he dropped an all mighty clanger sacking Stuart, that it is why he feels so uncomfortable talking about. He needs to admit that to himself and learn from it, then move on.

And those same players should hang their heads in shame.
They behaved like petulant school boys, when instead they should have seen their actions were going to get their 'mate' sacked. Who needs 'friends', huh ? :(

The Manager/Chairman relationship is probably the most important in the football club, so no surprise that it wasn't going to work in the long run as they weren't on the same page.

This next appointment is crucial. Very important Edin get's someone he trusts to buy into the philosophy and backs him 100%.

Good post ! And yet - will the Chairmen also appreciate that when the chips are down, the Manager needs to 'trust' them, to do what is right ?

McCall was given assurances in early December ................ BUT - The support from the Board was slow in delivering, in January. I'm sorry, but when the Orange light glows - you don't pass the gas station, only to moan 20 miles on, you are out of gas.

I agree. He talks about the team ethic, but only the Manager lost his job.....

Was the support slow or were the parties involved (Abbott, agents, players) slow. Given we signed four in the window I’d say the latter.

Don’t forget Stuart didn’t bring warnock and Lind straight in and wrongly played guy at right back.

I’d argue Stuart misused the extra assets he was given and that is as much to blame as the timing they were signed.

Very few clubs make really early signings on the January window because it’s the players who hold all the cards.

Peterborough were improving under McCann but they threw their play-off place away after he was sacked at the end of February, losing 5 of their last 6 to finish 7 points off. He signed a few non-league jewels that look set to make money for Peterborough who have a policy of selling players on rather than letting them wind contracts down. Such a policy would fit well with Edin, I expect. Also he is newish and young so probably won't demand a big salary and might be more flexible than some older hands. I suspect he best fits the job description and I would have no complaints about his appointment. I was surprised the bookies did not have him as favourite.

They didn't win for 7 games before he was sacked.

Peterborough were definitely not improving under Grant McCann.

Fair play. In all honesty - I guess we'll never know. The only thing that sticks in my throat was the continued 'We are prepared' line. Ultimately ......... Not enough, IMO.
