Do you think he is carrying too much weight?

 

I mentioned this a few weeks ago. He's stocky, and doesn't look to have much neck - which makes him look heavier than he really is I suppose. I've got to admit though, last night he didn't look as though he was going to beat their full back when he got the ball. He's either lost some of his pace (if he ever had any - I haven't seen the evidence), or their full back was lightning.

 

According to Google, he's 5"7 and 11.5 stone. Also according to Google, at that height, the "normal" weight is between 8.5 and 11.5 stone. Nothing to worry about then. Just get some faster boots Sean

I think he's lost pace. According to a Dogs fan I know he was quick when he was playing for them. I also think he looks slower than he did at the start of last season, before his injury.

 

I thought he looks overweight, he was slow which is why he was booked for a late tackle. Look on the bright side at least he was trying to tackle, this could be short of match fitness or even general fitness looking at him. He has missed a chunk of pre season as well due to injury. This might be me clutching at straws, but if our fitness coach could get him fit he might catch the bug of ‘giving his all for the shirt’.

Are we talking at cross purposes here? I was responding about Scannell's current lack of pace. But he wasn't booked. Are you talking about Akpan, who was.

 

Akpan? If so, yes I do. He’s natural physique is stocky, but he looked a little bigger last night than last season. However as you mention he missed a good chunk of pre season so some catch up in training and some match minutes should start to improve this.

Think @Offcomedun and @TallinnBantam are referring to Scannell. Don’t think he looks overweight but a little off the pace. Again, more minutes should help this. He didn’t play a lot of football last season so even with a pre season, which was impacted some caution over injuries, it’s understandable. I was a little concerned he was limping at the end of the game when walking over the fans. Didn’t look in pain though.

On a different subject, first time I’ve seen Patrick in a while. He’s definitely bulked up over the past season! Improve his touch and reading of the game, coupled with improved strength and existing pace and he could become a useful option from the bench. Thought he did ok last night to be fair to him.

Akpan needs a motivation transplant.

 

Well yes if he catches an ounce of the mentality of O’Donnell, Wood, Vaughan, Donaldson, we might have a player. Not sure anyone but himself is capable of helping him tbh.

Look, it all depends on what you look for?

He's been disappointing for sure but unlike AOC for example who was poor last season but was still given license in the team our midfield chopped and changed plus he had injuries.

Truth is we need better than Akpan, Anderson, Devine and even Palmer now. Rupp needs to get the cheque book out!

 

I presume a loan. B'pool want 1 in before he leaves though
