Why is there a discussion about Devitt? It's a rumour from Alan Nixon - notoriously useless rumour monger who, I would say, acts mostly to help agents drum up interest in their clients. Devitt will not sign for City. o_O

I can't understand this logic really. Here's a player who scored 11 goals and made 8 assists last season from midfield yet our fans don't want him because he was shite nearly a decade ago.

    And this surprises you? :joy:

We can give an opinion on how terrible someone is before they've even held up a shirt for the official photo never mind if they've actually played! :joy:

Whilst yes a Cullen or Lewis Obrien type would be good we also need goals from midfield and assists here is a comment from the Carlisle message board

Last two season, Jamie devitt got double figures in terms of assists and goals, the only off season in his 3 years he had with us was the first, in terms of his goals and assists over the last two years he's been one of the best players in league 2 , He's a player who can't be replaced

A stronger partner would allow Palmer to show his passing ability more, in the games I've watched him (Cambridge, Grimsby) he can play a very nice slide rule defence splitting pass from just outside the box. The problem is because him and whoever's partnered him aren't physically dominant he spends most of his time having to defend instead of being the more attacking member of a CM pairing. Shite at set pieces so far as well which disappointed me as he pinged a couple of good free kicks in during the liverpool game.

To be fair I'm normally guilty of that myself but with devitt, he's got a good recent record so I really can't see the issue with this one.

Agree with this completely. We're not getting to see what Palmer is really capable of because hes doing the rest of the midfield donkey work. Get a ball winner on the pitch and allow him to push forward and create and he'll shine I reckon

For the most part Palmer is invisible he started the game well on Saturday with a great pass in the build up to the first goal. After that we saw nothing from him and as you say his set pieces were poor

Hes definitely not getting to play to his strengths park. Let's be honest, if you've got Anderson alongside you your workload doubles!

Well its strange because when playing under McCall Devine played a more central/Forward midfield role and bossed games from there, We were close to the top of the table when he played at the beginning of that season due to injuries but as senior players got fit he was dropped and so did the club to mid table then went on to finish well,
If Devine gets a run of games he will gain confidence and grow in to the team as a natural midfield runner but as the home grown player is always the easiest for a manager to drop for others

We were never mid table in McCalls first season, you’ve just made that up. In fact we weren’t out of the top 6 in the 18 months he was in charge baring the opening games of the season.

My memory fails me as I seem to remember we had a dip with a run of 5 draws before recovering to finish well in McCalls first season finishing 5th, I remember us winning away at MK Dons and Devine running the show from midfield.

Yeah he seemed to start off well. I think it’s have benefitted him playing with Cullen but McCall fancies Dieng instead.
