Opening Home Game vs Cambridge United Aug 3rd

Not good enough! It’s as simple as that.
I know it’s only the first game but the acceptance of mediocracy from a section of our fans astonishes me.
The aim this season is auto promotion and on that showing we are a million miles away.
Why should we accept that performance / result as ok?
Can you imagine the upset if Liverpool are held by Norwich next week when they lost the title last year by 1 point!!
My point is that all league games count towards the overall total and it saying this doesn’t matter just because it’s the first game is nuts.
Il remind people in May if we’ve missed out by 2 points.

 

Scannell worries me, he’s shown nothing in the time he’s been here, i’ve seen right backs with more go forward threat.

 

Stephen Darby had more attacking threat and probably still would.

 

Good feet and can tie defenders in knots, but I'm not grading his silky skills as much as his actual impact on a game.

 

This is a new group though. Can’t expect understanding to be fully there after a month of pre-season. Plenty of encouraging signs today, a clean sheet and solid defensive display most notably.

FWIW I agree auto prom has to be our end aim.

 

Not sure about those tactics and playing it short out from keeper all the time. Donaldson looks like he can hold it up so why not use him more. Right back had a lot of space first half but we didn’t make most of it .

We look solid but badly lack a decent centre midfielder and a winger.

 

He was brought on to run at defenders but it took 10 minutes before someone passed him the ball.

 

That's true, but I imagine he was brought on to put in crosses, which he was unable to do so because the tactic was so obvious he was easily marked.

 

Quite right it's 2 points dropped whether it's the first or last match of the season
We drew at home to Cambridge who finished 21st last season and only a couple of points from relegation Coupled with the fact that they had 10 men for 30 minutes it's a dreadful result for a team expected and tipped to be champions fans have every right to be disgruntled Early days I know but still lots of work to be done

 

Which is why we need a left winger - they can't double mark both wingers at the same time.

 

Don't get Henley starting looked poor out of position alot. Prob cos he's a right back. Actually thought Anderson had one of his better games. But the midfield is gash gary Jones type needed sooner rather than later

 

If Scannell left, we'd have plenty of money for two wingers.

 

This is pretty much a brand new team, giive them until end of August to gel... much improvement from last season but nothing short of promotion is acceptsble this season

 

O say this every season unless you have a team of players all playing to form then to break teams like Cambridge set up then we will struggle. To get them to come our at at VP you we need to score - if we cannot by open play you needs well rehearsed set pieces and good free kick and corner takers. On today we certainly need to practice and come up with original set pieces and players able to test the keeper by getting free kicks on goal.

 

Vaughan was shire today. Decent overhead kick but awful finishing, bullied when back to goal etc.

Underwhelming from all. Poor.

 

Palmer perfectly illustrated that McMahon is better at set pieces than other set piece specialists.

Woeful.

 

No, what's nuts is trying to make out a 0-0 draw in the first game is a disaster and could end up costing us at the end of the season. In case you've forgotten, we didn't draw our first game last season, we won it. Those extra 2 points didn't prevent us from being relegated come the end of the season though did they?
