When was Gibson hot?

He worked hard and did his job defensively. Bit going forward? Zip.

 

He shifted the ball nicely and had a crack or two.

He just looks like someone who learned football on FIFA rather than a football field.

 

God that was boring, l spent the second half wishing l'd stayed in the beer garden at the Shoulder of Mutton.

I am sure things will get better but it was alarming to see the team playing just the same and just as bad after the sending off.

 

I just don’t see what Gibson offers. Nothing against him, but we’re 2-3 short in midfield and left wing. If we don’t add, we won’t go up.

People knocked Kyel Reid, but the Reid from five or six years ago would have done us a world of good today.

 

A Colin Calderwood side comes to frustrate and annoy. Shock horror. We knew it before the game but chose to plunder on with the 4-3-3.

Felt like last season at times but just with a better defence.

4-5-1 would be better if I’m honest. Scannell on the right with Donaldson on the left but making it a 3 when we attack and scannel moving out it the right when we need an outlet. But like we did against Liverpool in first half. Vaughan leading line on his own

Gibson isn’t up for league football no matter how much he or his dad cries on twitter. Good impact player but not a central midfield in all my days.

 

Did one corner create an attacking threat or am I misunderstanding the point of a corner?

 

The team was crying out for width right from the start, as soon as Scannell belatedly came on, we saw more of an attacking intent, with balls coming into the box. Scannell is too good to be sat on the bench for 75 minutes in this league

 

A tad dramatic I think.

That team today was not Bowyers preferred starting 11. It was a make do line up.

And it showed at times.

Why such poor decisions at board level @wetherbywhaler?

 

Mellor - Lumbering and pointless
Henley - Why exactly are we playing right backs at left back, with 2 left backs on the bench
Anderson - Has no right playing professional football. Truly atrocious.
Palmer - Seemed to hold himself back, wayyyy too hesistant
Gibson - Very promising. A lot of good tackling, sublime ball for Vaughan. My MOTM
Doyle - Just get rid, for any money we can get. Idiotic idea to play him in a position which needs agility, passing skills, dribbling.
Vaughan Donaldson, shades of class. We need width and crosses.

If we continue to play Vaughan Donaldson its really not hard to work out that we need to play 442 and just cross. They will score plenty.
I'd really hope the Mcburinie money frees us to sign someone with PACE. We badly badly need some speed in the team.

Apart from the sublime ball to Vaughan who hit the bar.
Or the couple of dangerous whipped crosses.

very harsh with Mellor. He was never troubled at the back, and he was our only player offering width for the first 75 minutes. Definite contender for MOTM

 

Well here goes, on the day Cambridge looked a well drilled side who weren't frightend to have a go.
Even when down to 10 men they pushed forward, and sorry to say our formation help them no end, nothing out wide although Mellor tried, left it far to long to bring a natural wide man on, and yes I keep hearing about this 4-3-3 formation but IMO we still need a wide man who can play on the left.
Not the best game to start the season but many of our problems were self inflicted.

 

To be fair Cambridge didn’t frustrate or annoy, we did that ourselves. I would play Mellor wide right where he offers more than Scannell does. Palmer looks tidy without being threatening, a bit like Billy Knott used to do. And try the lad from Walsall on the left. Still need a central midfielder badly.

Scannell didn't make any difference.

I'm worried by his sheer lack of output.

You're only too good for a division if you're making and or scoring goals that win games - very concerned Scannell will not be that guy, and for a heck of a wage.

Rather have pace on the wings with intent, like a younger Marshall or a Reid.
