Pre Season - HT Report

He's only scored over twenty goals in a season twice in his entire career and a career total of 127 in 415 is decent enough but not prolific enough to justify the amount of faith you seem to have in him, is that better for you? Play the ball not the man, pun very much intended.

 

That's a better effort yes and I can definitely see your point, I just don't agree with it.

Although I do think the argument is irrelevant for two reasons. Firstly because I think someone else will come and take Doyle before the window shuts and secondly, nothing I've seen from Bowyer suggests we'll play two up front so I'd say Doyle is 3rd in line for a line striker role.

 

I can see both sides but don't think we can use last season as a guide, on last seasons showing he certainly wasn't worth the money were are paying him I personally hope he stays if we have any thoughts of promotion from thus division we need 3 strikers and I believe the players Bowyer has brought to the club can only help him and our other two strikers.
The only trouble with paying someone big money is if he and the team are not successful you may find it difficult to move him and others on.

 

I could understand Bowyer not playing two up top last season but with Donaldson, Vaughan and Doyle (if he's still here) and the likes of Scannell fit again IMO it would be a wasted opportunity.
Other teams fans must be looking at the likes of above and thinking that's some attacking option, let's not waste this opportunity to use our best assets.

 

Akpan is useful at pointing. Like a stronger version of Wright. But with all his physicality he has only ever imposed himself vs Burton. Showed us what he is capable of once last season. For me get rid. If he was going to put last season behind him and show up this pre season I ain’t seen it. And take o Connor and o donnell (captain blame others) with him.

Doyle’s record in L1 throughout his career: 46 goals in 100 app.

Do I need to remind folk that we’re playing in the league below?

and fortunately they are two players who can realistically be moved on

 

Doyle, possibly. But who'd want Akpan?

 

A fair few clubs i would expect. MK Dons. Burton would have him back. They will look at his career and not just the one season.

 

That's not even close to been true though. They were arguably our best players last season....
