Promotion! Promotion isn't in mine either

 

Why another personal attack, I just don’t get it?

In all fairness, the signings we have attained are of decent calibre. Players who have won promotion out of this very league in recent seasons? It’s hardly a blinkered view of assessing next season’s credentials now, is it?

 

Personal attack? Where the frig have I attacked anyone? I said anyone claiming them to be a solid defensive unit is embarrassing as they haven’t seen most of them play yet.

So come on, feel free to join in.
We have the same keeper that some didn’t rate last season and have slagged off for weeks. His rival was on the bench all last season for his club.

We have a right-back that was in the team last season, when fit and didn’t look that solid. Next to him currently, is O’Connor, who was one of the worst performing players of the season. And he will be paired with either an Accrington Stanley back-up or a kid from non-league. Admittedly, we do look to have signed a better left back than Chicksen, but that’s not saying much.

Is this definitely “a solid looking defence”? If you think my questioning of his comments was an “attack”, you really do typify the phrase “snowflake”....!

BTW, which of our defensive signings “won promotion out of this very league in recent seasons”?

Exactly. I’m happy to give them a chance and HOPE they deliver what Bowyer wants from them. But for some to already be claiming “excellent” signings and/or “solid defensively” is just OTT positivity which helps nobody

 

I'm wondering what sort of impact players like Donaldson and potentially Vaughan will do for our future recruitment. These are big names for L2, I'm sure other players are watching!

 

You make our defence sound a lot worse by suggesting A O'C might start

Especially if they are offered win, promotion or goals bonuses etc

Thank you. Yes, aware of him doing it at Accrington, (started 18 times), but the poster suggested multiple defenders had recently gained promotion from this league. I can only think of him

Bit unfair to speculate before we have seen them play but when you speak of players who have gained promotion from L2 and are now back in L2 shows how far their careers haven't progressed
We should have eyes on promotion and also staying in L1 something that's not on these players cv

 

Mellor was excellent once fit towards the end of the season the new left back has excellent reviews so that’s the full backs looking good despite what some say I have read reviews and opinions from fans and supporters regarding Hornby and I think he will do well so we are ok with the keeper. As for central defence the reviews the new centre half are good and I think if the rumours are true Paudie may be returning. Of course until we get going nobody has a clue but I think there is genuine cause for optimism

 

Why is it embarrassing to have an opinion?

I’m basing it on our signings so far. Why do we have to seen a lot of them to form an opinion? The same people say all our signings are shite based on not even seeing them

Anyway, Mellor was solid in what he played last year and won promotion out of this league with Blackpool and Bowyer. Scoring a fair few goals in the process. Big tick for me

Henley looks good cover. Pacy and hopefully stay injury free. Knows Bowyer well and has played at a much higher level

Richards-Everton won promotion from this league and last season played at a higher level than this league. Accrington wanted to keep him, surely counts for something.

Jackson from Scotland. Couple of promotions under his belt. Ok it’s the dog and duck league but again fans loved him and wanted to keep him. Number of clubs chasing him. Can’t all be wrong

A o Connor is good enough for this league and as I said adding Paudie O’Connor is key but I reckon he will come.

So yeah that’s why I say it’s solid looking.

Call me a happy clapper all you want. Nothing wrong with having an opinion. But if it’s embarrassing and happy clapping. So be it.

I’m willing to bet you money we keep a hell of a lot more clean sheets than last season

 

Whilst some of that is true Park, half of what you wrote is subjective. Mellor has proven over time to be a good footballer. If he stays, he will be an asset, if he stays fit.

I also agree with you that Longridge looks a decent signing. But after that, we are guessing. O’Connor was one of the worst players on our books last season. French is a development player and his career could go either way. Richards-Everton couldn’t break into the Stanley side so I’m not sure where you get your “reviews are good” from? As for Hornby, I’ll wager a bet with you now that O’Donnell plays more games than him this coming season.

As for Paudie, completely irrelevant, seen as we were talking about the current squad and not what might be.

 

Going back years ago, I was talking to a Thackley coach (A City fan, and we were both Bikers) in close season. 'We'll do nowt again, next season - filling up with other Clubs cast off boys' ............. He was talking about City's signing of John Hendrie and Chris Withe ....... 'nuff said !

 

It’s embarrassing to have an opinion based on nothing. Had you seen the players more than for 60seconds on a video clip, I would give you it. But you’ve seen none of the new players more than a couple of times. To suddenly suggest they ARE quality is embarrassing.

I don’t mind those saying they are excited and they are hopeful that the players COULD be good signings. Big difference though between ARE and COULD BE.

And yes, I agree that those saying they are rubbish are just as embarrassing. Until they’ve been seen we don’t know how good they are.

So when a player signs there should be one post, just announcing the signings and nothing else? In your world that’s what you seem to want? Or as long as people use the word could?

You can’t have an opinion of them until you have watched them dozens of times

I’ll stick with my own judgement and I’ll continue to post my “embarrassing” opinions.

We look to have a solid defence. I’ll be proved right next season.

And on Richards Everton he was offered a new deal at Accrington but turned it down to come to us. They wanted to keep him despite him playing a bit of a bit part. They obviously thought he could do a job in league one.
