We all said the same about McLean and no doubt Peter Thorne and Sir Gary. One difference here however is that CD has been playing regularly.

 

Think we need more strikers not less. If we do sign James Vaughan, we have to keep him fit.

 

No i dont understand the excitement. Once again people are hearing a name and thinking it's fantastic. How did we get on with that last season. My only comments are that Donaldson will be 36 in Feb and by all accounts can't hit a barn door and James Vaughan has had one good season in his career. I watch football, I speak to people Involved in football, I follow clubs up and down the country and listen to what their fans say. I don't hear a name and pi55 my pants with excitement.

 

So, an example of a striker who WOULD get you excited might be...?

I'm guessing a top scorer, player of the season, successful higher division player, or someone equally outside our price bracket, but feel free to blow my presumptuous nonsense to smithereens mate.

Doyle is a proven striker. Last season, we constantly asked him to play a role in which he was not comfortable. Hopefully, the Donaldson signing will rectify this even if the Bolton fans don't think he is up to it. They have been wrong before though, I remember a few of them turning up at VP to see the debut of "super" John McGinlay.

 

Genuine question but what striker would you be happy with? Personally I think Donaldson and Vaughan are fantastic signings for a league 2 club where let's be honest the standard is extremely poor and nowhere near what those two have played at for the past decade.

 

It seems to me Bolton fans want to blame anyone but the very person who has got the club into it's present situation.

I think we should be looking at complete rebuild job. Young hungry players that we can look to build a team around for 2-3 years.
I think Doidge would be excellent along with a couple more who play in league 2 who did well at Colchester and Newport etc.
I'm not saying Donaldson and Vaughan aren't good players for league 2. I do think that Donaldson is a waste of time but Vaughan I would happily take if he can find any kind of form. We have the perfect opportunity to start again. Complete overhaul. I don't see that with the likes of 36 Clayton. I would love for them to work out obviously but we've been down this road before.. Just last summer we were all giddy. I was having the exact same conversation with fans when I said Anthony O'connor was useless.
We will need a first class fitness backroom team in place for preseason that's for sure.

 

Christ most were saying with the player budget we had we would be "fishing in the s**t pool", the likes of Donaldson & Vaughan have seasons of experience let's give it till Christmas before some write them off, and if you're correct come back and tell us all "I told us so".

I agree with the young and hungry part. I can see Doyle going and us signing at least one forward who fits this category along with at least one winger. Plus Longridge, Hornby and French have been signed with this in mind too imo. And I'd take Doidge (although he was woeful in the playoffs) but players of that calibre cost big these days, just ask Bolton who agreed to a 1m fee for him before they went tits up.

 

Think you need to be a bit more realistic with your aspirations. It would be nice if we could pick up a striker like this and like every other club in the division, I am sure we are looking for the miracle free transfer.

As for Doidge, it's SPL or League One for hkm next season. His fee will be significant.
