One of the most accurate posts on this topic that I have read. Nail right on the head.

We aren't. infact the first team budget was higher under the previous owners.
Rahic runs the club day to day - and absolutely has sunk in every last penny he's got to buy his share of the club - Rupp has money, but is absolutely unwilling and won't under any circumstances put anymore money in. so under Lawn and Rhodes we most certainly weren't worse off.

That's probably true ... under Lawn and Rhodes, later we had a better manager as well! ;)

It IS possible to succeed on a low budget.
BUT the most likely way to do this is to get a brilliant manager with connections.

Unfortunately I can't imagine a "Brilliant manager with connections" would put up with the s**t that's going on at VP with budget strangling, selling our best players, refusing to pay decent wages not giving the manager proper responsibility.....

One thought I (still) have is that the owners have had someone in mind for the job all along (we all know who that might be) THEN the money and proper control might be afforded to the manager.

You are right in the fact that the money has to come feom somewhere. Well with cheap season tickets it won’t come from the supporters, the TV rights in league 1 are peanuts and its notoriously hard to get sponsorship in Bradford with it being a working class city. As Dennis says if you want things like a new pitch essential stadium refurbishments and other overheads it either comes from the owners, the first team budget or longer term debt against the club. If you keep taking from the first team pot to fund other projects i pretty much guarantee you are going to go backwards. Our clubs budget is vitually dependant on the big numbers coming through the gates to offset the cheap tickets. A big supporter base will warrant a successful first team squad. We might be aiming for self sustainability long term but the owners are going to have to take a hit in short term to give it any realistic chance of success.
Stand still in business and you will eventually go backwards.

Raise the budget or lower expectations imo is a big factor as to why many fans aren't happy and was a mistake they made early on. The success of the 1st ssn didn't help. Saying we'r gonna do this and gonna do that getting people's hope's up and then not delivering unsurprisingly is going to frustrate folk.

I was ambivalent about Grayson but I think these comments have made me realise we've probably dodged one.

Read somewhere this week someone talking about Neil Warnock saying if you had a pound he'd make you think you had £50. Compare that to Grayson comments that dourly proclaim only the top six spenders can be successful. Makes you wonder why we turn up.

Never been to Rawdon Meadows but I've no doubt the facilities there are more than adequate. Sunderlands are state of the art but haven't stopped them falling down the leagues. One of the clubs he's linked with (Barnsley) are owned by the council after they went into admin. so it would be ironic if he went there and found he still couldn't have the wallpaper he liked in his office.

He sounds like some sort of diva making excuses why they can't go on stage. We don't need this sort of manager.

Pardew dourly presided over WBA that couldn't get a result for love nor money. Moore comes in, preaches a bit of togetherness and nearly achieves the greatest escape ever. Barnet were dead and buried in League 2. Allen comes in and suddenly the team is transformed. Both these achieved this with the same squad and the same training facilities.

We need someone that can give us good reasons why we can achieve something and not someone that gives us reasons why we can't. I predict this time next year he'll be one of those managers linked to every job going but never getting one.

It would have been interesting to see where we might have been with Parky being allowed a free reign on all matters football, hindsight I know but it would have been interesting.

When the new manager is announced he'd better have good connections with either Premiership clubs or Premiership managers as IMO we are going to have use the loan market in several positions.

The point I was trying to make, probably badly, was that he has gone and given his reasons and I don’t want to hear from him again.
I agree totally with you though, the silence from the fatherland at VP is deafening

I remember Warnock being interviewed on talksport the other day. They asked him what the key to success was and one of the things he said was how important it was to get the owners onside. Make them feel special, massage their egos, make them feel involved, do whatever it takes.
I think SMc's downfall is that he that didn't like Rahic, didn't really try to hide it and just made a rod for his own back.
In any walk of life if you upset your bosses their is usually only one winner.

My target is promotion to the championship.
The owners need to understand that am not happy just plod along in league one for the next 10 to 20 year.

It's the owners job and with the manager to build a team that the fans believe in. If they can't do that then they need sell up.

This summer the owners can not mess up again.

(Rupp needs to get involved more and not hide in Germany)

Good post read the link above about Shrewsbury and Paul Hurst and his attitude. In my opinion the owners should now scrap the transfer committee and make the manager responsible for the budget. And perhaps learn from the last board and the early days of the Richmond era and speculate a bit extra to give us an edge and if it fails claw the money back by player sales or reducing the following budget it seemed to work and kept us within our means.

Things are improving, slowly, and it almost appears snail like. The scouts are out and about, and until this year I hadn't appreciated just how much time and effort these blokes put into this. They can be expected to 'cover' over half a dozen games in the course of a weekend. This means they group these fixtures as close as possible, in order to cut down on travel time. This has been a poor winter, where many games were postponed, and a scout already on his way.
Again - Schools could do so much more, by contacting our scouting team and pointing out any possible talent. It was a chance meeting with Mick Couzens in ASDA that my wife and grandson actually were able to 'queue jump' and details were exchanged. So it is working - albeit slowly. ;)
