I'm cool with them wanting to do this as it's the proper way to run a footie club, i.e. it's no good running with a deficit you cannot afford to reign in when needed. Solution is to wipe the original debt off and then once you are happy that you're on top of the finances, gamble slightly then. Spectacularly boring and long term - which of course doesn't go down well, but it is similar to what a club like Burnley did, certainly initially. They were very cautious after running into debt in the 80's - this meant 15 years later (i.e. like u) they were one of the view clubs who ran in the black and were openly mocked for their lack of ambition

I think this grown up discussion we're all having about finance is great. I think we can see that there is no 'one way'. It could argued that Town and Millwall both got extremely lucky when they got promoted from L1, which then enabled them to think on. If they hadn't gone up when they had, who knows what cost cutting they might have to do

But Bronco, on the one hand we can't throw at them "you're successful business people, you should know better" then on the other hand bandy about "they know nothing about league one football, they've learnt nothing".

You just can't argue both sides.

Its more likely they are successful in what they've done previously but league one football has been a learning curve. They were probably over confident at the start.

 

Perhaps we can compromise at 'months'

I don't know if they were over confident right at the start but getting to the playoff final last year certainly exceeded their expectations as they were expecting a mid table finish. I think that might have made then think 'this is going to be easier than we thought!' and made Edin in particular start to believe (wrongly, very wrongly), that he is more of a footballing genius than he first thought.

They have been sucsessful in their past ventures it goes without saying, so most would think on looking at the club doing due dilligence and seeing how the club has been run in the past they would come in and for the time being run it a similar way, that's hardly an outrageous way of thinking new owners would go about a new venture especially when the new owners have very limited knowledge about how to run a football club.
Yet when they took over they did exactly the opposite, I believe they got very lucky during their first season once again McCall massively over achieving. then this season they went for the option of getting rid of tried and tested higher paid players ( obviously some left for other reasons) and bringing in potencial that at the moment haven't shown that potencial during last season.
Sorry if you come into a new venture after being very sucsessful in the past and go down the route of we know best then I can make both comments and feel justified in doing so.

You may be correct with regards Greg, I would assume Grayson would want his tried and tested peope around him, I just dont get some of the comments with regards to Greg or James when the problem in this case goes right to Edins door.
