Something Is Rotten In The State Of Bradford City

    It must be clear to everybody that the Club is in its worst state since at least the early years of this century. Things are bad; indeed they could yet get much worse.

    A Club heavily in debt (and the more I hear, the worse it sounds), a plethora of seemingly unwanted players signed up for at least one more season, many on highly paid contracts.

    A Club whose players, in the eyes of many supporters, are not good enough, not trying enough or simply don't care, a revolving door of managers and coaches, all of whom have failed to stop the rot.

    Not to mention rumours of unpleasant incidents involving both current and former people connected with the Club.

    And responsibility for this rotten state must fall at the door of one man, the now departed Edin Rahic. Make no mistake, others must take some share of the blame but, ultimately, the Club's future is a mess of one man's nightmare.

    So where, do we go from here?

    Well, the man himself may be gone, but the rotten fruits of his mismanagement linger on, and will continue to linger for years to come.

    The time for bandaging the wounds and papering over the cracks has passed. Those running the Club, and those who have the Club's interest at heart, must not let this malaise continue; it is not difficult to see where that could end.

    We need a complete overhaul of the Club, from top to bottom. There are many people out there, with the skills to help rebuild the Club, people who have a genuine affection for the Club. It is time to put out the call.

    It must be done whilst the Club's supporter base remains high (even if many of those in that supporter base are currently not attending). Build it and they will come back.

    This is no longer about a short term fix to try and stave off relegation, or even attempting to bounce back at the first attempt. It is about the long term future of the Club, and the building of that long term future must start today.

    Something is rotten in the state of Bradford City and it must not be allowed to continue.

    Beat me to it @StaffordBantam@StaffordBantam I have just sent this text to someone who took time out to watch that shower yesterday at Portsmouth :

    Our defending was Sunday morning stuff, even accepting Edin was responsible for a lot of whats happened with regards our club but he cant be held responsible for resent team performances.
    There is something running through our club that is toxic if a seasoned pro like Hopkin could not sort it
    I'm not giving up just yet but we need an appointment asap to give him and us a chance there are still 33 points to pay for.

    @StaffordBantam@StaffordBantam - you say we are heavily in debt, do you know who to? I know it has been reported we have run a deficit but all that our owners were covering it. Has that changed?

    As I understand it Stefan is currently covering the debt, but it is a large debt and, in the short term at least, it will only increase.

    To add, I'm accepting that a whole load of patience is going to be required. I'm accepting that a whole load of frustration will be endured. I'm accepting that I will doubt and question the actions of the club. I'm accepting that change will take time. I'm accepting that next season will be about stabilising the club.

    But this is the here and now. I will presumably ramble on in the future and forget my statement of today.

    This is gonna take time. I'll back the club next season and purchase a season ticket for me and the lad, accepting we are in league 2.

    The more this develops there is only one person to blame and that’s not Edin, it’s Stefan. How he allowed this to go on so long without not knowing is unbelievable.

    The first step is to appoint a manager for the future not only now, Let him bring in a whole new team round him and get rid of the present coach, Let him assess the players over the next 2 months and finance those he wants out of the club while backing him with a suitable wage budget to build his own squad, Slowly we will come through this if we take the right decisions now

    I doubt the only debt is the owner(s), but it is probably the only significant debt.

    Is it a managed debt though?

    Most football clubs are in debt? Bradford City have this obsession to be debt free.

    What more do you suggest Stefan could have done since sacking Edin? He's backed the manager and covered the deficit. This lazy, spineless bunch of players keep being allowed to pass the blame!

    Exactly and debt to owner is probably the best type of debt to have as they aren’t going to call it in whilst still owning the club

    I would suggest that a significant part of the debt is not, in the strictest sense, a managed debt. It is a debt that has been inflicted on the current owner and it is a debt that is set to grow.

    To date Stefan has been prepared to cover the debt. The question is, will he continue to cover the debt and, if so, what are the implications for Bradford City's playing budget going forwards?

    It's ok someone covering a debt. The biggest problem is if they're charging interest on that debt or putting a time frame on them getting their money back.
