Season tickets (Now with guess how Many Poll)

i started a thread probably 12 or so months ago called ‘expectations vs reality’ or something along those lines.

in my opinion, one thing that doesn’t help is the oversaturation of the football market and that within a few minutes people can find highlights from anywhere in the world.

some fans see a player in ‘x’ league performing a great skill or scoring a wonder goal and expect our players to be able to do the same because our league is deemed to be better. the problem is, they don’t see them fall over their laces the other 99 times. then they hop on social media and send dogs abuse to players and the club because ‘highlight reels’ have given them false expectations.

 

People who sit around me in Block D would be devastated if I didn't renew. So they can rest assured that I'll be there as usual next season.

 

Its part of being a football fan though, our expectations are always a step away from reality. It's part of the thing that keeps you coming back, the hope that there's always something better around the corner. In an ideal world we would just accept our lot, resign ourselves to the fact that we are what we are, a lower league club thats had successful blips here and there. But to do that you would take away one of the dreams of every football fan, that the grass is indeed greener on the other side.

The way you have been ranting today it seems you are literally about to pick up the phone and book some cheap advertising for next season. What business would you be promoting?

 

I think that is a little unfair, I have been involved with Bradford City 60 years+ because of my granddad and father introducing professional football to me, I never had expectations of grandeur because back when we started it was usually a local business man that was chairman of your local club, as a bit of a past time.
I've seen a few promotion's and a few relegation's and always accepted that is our lot, a small club compared with other local teams as my example above, and any promotion usually lasted a couple of seasons at best.
It has been discussed many times what would the average fan be happy with and most said to be a good Championship club, when the new owners bought our club and obviously knowing our back ground I would have hoped that is what they were hoping to achieve when they bought our club ?.

Of all the players available for me to sponsor Chicksen would not be on the list.

 

I was told Napoleons stopped sponsoring the club and Mitton's were not happy with what was going on at the club, one of the first duties Julian had was to talk to sponsors and get them back on board, lets hope now the ego has gone more will sponsor the club.
I don't need binoculars mate I have a Fuji camera with 50 X zoom which can cope with anything down at training, but Hopkin might not like fans taking pictures with camera's as they might be opposition clubs trying to get one up on us.

point being that we only attract a small percentage of our wider population. yes there are reasons for this but even if the wider population was halved, we’d still only be attracting a very small percentage of that.

I don't understand your point with regards fans making comments about the referee, are you suggesting if we paid 300 pounds for our tickets the comments would be more acceptable/valid ?.

 

Yes I'm agreeing but the major factor is because of the clubs history, you point out that it's the same with the Bull, they were getting regular attendances of 20,000 + and breaking every attendance record with regards Rugby League gates, during those heady days when they were steamrollering most of the Super League teams, putting 30/40 points against the Loiners was always special.
We have never had a history of success, so I believe what Julian & Mark did all those years ago shows you what can be achieved with very little finance going into our club apart from season ticket monies, to get the maximum out of a situation like that is to claw money back through merchandising and hospitality.

 

He's covering THIS season's overspend, and it's a huge deal that he's doing it.

He won't be planning on anything like that level of overspend next season, and we've hardly gone out and signed a squad of worldies in the first place.

There's no doubt next season's squad will be much, much less expensive, but hopefully the squad size will consist of quality not quantity.
