I think that's a pretty fair description actually. Previously I've raved about Tharavadu next door but the last time I went the mains were bang average :( . I guess most places can have good and bad nights

What is really sad is that we are talking about all these places in Leeds. I haven't eaten out in the centre of Bradford for many years but it sounds like a real struggle to find anything top notch apart from curry

Yes it is. Unrecognizable now. Kaushi Patel has taken a back seat and it is run by her son and daughter in law mainly. I loved Kaushi's cooking - I can recommend her cook book too.

Out of interest, do you guys have other recommendations in Leeds? I think I've tried most but always good to find somewhere new or revisit other peoples recommendations. Next up for me is My Thai at the Old Steps tomorrow and Tattu next week.....................and possibly Rajput in Shipley tonight, but don't know if I dare risk it with a trip to Barnsley tomorrow! It's good to get out now and again

Any specific cuisine? I'm well into the Reliance. Unfussy but smartly done scran.

My go to in Leeds is Neon Cactus down Call Lane. Mexican food done really well and fairly cheap, decent range of drink too. Nothing fancy just good food, decent service and inexpensive.

I eat anything (except marzipan)! and like upmarket or scruffy so long as the food and "buzz" is good. The Reliance is one we keep meaning to try and never quite getting there.

Thanks Marshy. Haven't been for a couple of years but I loved the food there too. Brilliant value, just a struggle to get a table on a Friday or Saturday night

Really enjoyed a meal at the Swine that Dines, a couple of doors down from the Reliance. Sharing plates (I know, i know...) but really down to earth service and 'interesting' (i know, i know...) food.

Bring yer own booze, too, which we picked up from the Reliance.

BYO - in town - what a bonus that is. Is the Swine that Dines related to the Reliance?

If you're going to Shipley for a curry tonight, have you tried Shimla Spice? Fantastic food, good service, nice surroundings and reasonably priced. And I've never had a problem with Ghandi's Revenge the following day. But it can get busy on a Friday evening unless you go early, so you might need to book.

Hiya. Yes we usually go to one or the other as they are both next door to each other. The problem with the Shimla is they do seem to like you out the door by half eleven, whereas the Rajput is just livening up! I think the food is great at both.
Unfortunately curries, however good, sometimes just get me!

    Nah, but they're nearly-neighbours.

It used to be a very good breakfast-style caff but the gradually moved to doing evening menus. Top stuff.

I rate Raj Poot better than Shimla but Shimla is still decent enough. Just gets a bit boring having to listen to happy birthday every two minutes.

Third & favourite visit to the Moorcock Inn at/near Sowerby Bridge last night.

Ace stuff. You're never going to get steak & chips up there but it's neither too poncy or too leftfield either.

Even better - they'd run out of the wine we fancied but for each bottle we did sup they charged us the amount of that (considerably cheaper) bottle.

Full house, great buzz, top scran.

Breakfast this morning at the Trading Rooms in Piece Hall. A good looking place and a sound full english.

Can't disagree with any of that. Karella Gosht at Rajpoot is my favourite curry anywhere. Went to Shimla for a change on Friday and it was really quiet. Probably less than 20 people in including us
