Don't reckon so, whilst this defence might have gone a few games without conceding, we all know how ropey they can be. We need a centre back for sure and someone versatile to fit in where needs be in defence if we get injuries

 

Agreed. We'll add a centre back, and another experienced player who can probably cover 2-3 positions across defence and midfield. We'll add a left winger and a central midfielder I think. We may add a striker - although I'm less certain of that than I was a few weeks ago.

I think that'll be it - unless Payne leaves.

 

To go along with that other quality striker Louis Moult .

They're close to signing Brad Potts from Barnsley too. Hope so he was good against us.

Exeter making another 750k from a player eh. they're doing exactly what Edin wanted to do, but more succesfully because they actually have an eye for talent.

and even that has left them still in League Two. we'd have probably ended up even worse than that if Edin had been allowed to continue.

 

We would be in Non League.

The strategy doesn't work in football. Look at Southampton for example.

The only strategy in football is to spend money and plenty of it in the right ways.

Town can argue loaning plenty of players works but that's only a short term fix.

I agree Fordy. He as been shown what potential and reasonably good players can achieve if managed properly and now he needs to show support (cash) to Hopkins. If Obrien and Payne were not here we would struggle.

 

If they sell Potts then I can see Payne going to them.

 

Eh? Over the years Southampton have developed shit loads of players and sold them on. They had a whole team of staff dedicated to identifying youngsters with the right physical attributes and mentality and training them under Les Reed and others

 

We are a lower league football team losing money every week. The loan system needs to be used and used wisely

 

As we have found out, not the easiest managing with a rubbish chairman and a massive budget. Not everything is black and white

 

Derby's George Thorne on Luton's radar wouldn't mind him at city or if luton are going for him hopefully means they aren't in for Payne.

 

His next game could be against us, rather than for us. Hope not.

Totally get your anxieties on this but as others have said I think we just have to trust in DH and his team, together with JR and SR. Only comment I would make is the club need to be careful on how the transfer PR coming out of the club is managed over the next few days/weeks - seen a number of posts relating to the DH quote 'want our players in by Jan 1st' and yes our priorities have probably changed since this was made but EVERYONE knows the past few windows have been a bit of a disaster, so the club need to box clever on this one. My own view would be say as tight lipped as possible until the deals are done as much as we fans like to hear rumours, these can come from sites like this one! The biggest cause for concern and a 'here we go again' response from fans is when the message starts to change from what we have previously been told
