I actually trust Hopkin on this one....

 

Positive part of me is saying this is a great thing. Let’s not get put over a barrel to the demands of the agents. Let’s not sign anyone from above just because they’ve got a Prem pedigree. We’ve seen that before and it doesn’t always work. It’s great that DH is coming out with this statement of intent. Shows he’s now running the show.
The negative side of me, the side which has been scarred by Edingate, is saying to myself that we’ve heard these statements before. Goalposts have been shifted. Players suddenly get injured or agents greedy. Names pop up and we say we’re interested, never to be mentioned again. Players we have that should be sent out on loan, don’t get sent out. We’ve got injured players. It’s obvious we need someone in, but nothing happens. And the classic one....we sell our best players on the final day and miss the deadline.

I seriously hope it’s not the latter. Alarm bells ringing a bit, cos DH said he already had them targeted before the 1st and wants to bring in players from the start. Hasn’t happened yet. We wait and see.

Thank god however that the team is now performing. Think back three months when we were all desperately waiting for Jan 1st. At least it’s not that desperate.

I think I have to agree.
Seems to of done well at Dundee.
Players often just don’t fit into teams for one reason or another.
Hopefully if we do get him he will fit into ours.

 

I think that is the crux of it, we are no longer as desperate for new additions than we were not so long ago so Hopkin is in a better position to wait for better targets. Hopkin was also patient with Caddis and that worked out well. The pressure will build a little if we do start to lose some of the loanees because they have been the ones that have led the way with Hopkin's ideology.

I think its fair to be scarred by Edin's promises though. But with Hopkin seemingly in full control, with Rupp & Rhodes' backing, we should see more targeted recruitment.

 

Had the players not responded the way they have over the last 4 weeks, then DH may well have needed 3/4 players in, and their calibre might have been lower than what we’re seeing now.

Now we’re punching way above where we were, the players he might have wanted may now be deemed not good enough for this squad and he’s moved on.

I’m happy with the report and it’s refreshing to have a normal transfer policy where we only need a couple (provided we hold onto what we have), not the rediculous amount of turnover we’ve seen in the last 18 months.

They're saying the same old things we did nearly 20years ago (OMG 20yrs ! can you believe that !!), the defiant bravado of how'll they be back etc...
They're so naïve, it doesn't work like that, they'll be more likely to drop down to our current level than go straight back up.
It happens to the best of us ;-)

But January transfer window is notorious for players been available a week before and then suddenly become vital for their clubs. It only takes for a few Premiership players to be available and then they recall players from The Championship who then don't let go the ones, we're likely to have - just an example of what a minefield it is

Frankly if we keep everyone, with Wright going and Reeves getting his head back on for midfield cover - I'll be happy

 

Tony don't call him Vince McMahon has joined up with Stuart at Scunthorpe. I think he'll do okay there, he loved playing for Stuart and was good for us in that wembley season in particular.

 

He may do, however I believe, just like with McCardle, we've had his best years.

 

Whatever we may think I'll be surprised if we bring a left back in this January. Hopkin seems happy with Chicksen. With the team currently keeping clean sheets, and Wood as backup, I think his priorities will be elsewhere - eg another central midfielder, because JoB's fitness can't be relied on, a winger and either a striker or else a playmaker if Payne goes.

 

He should have crossed instead of going for glory and shooting, in the last minute at Wembley.
We'd have beaten Millwall in extra time.
