I said the same Onside. Once the autos were gone, I didn't think we stood a chance in the playoffs.

GA has form for this, doesn't like a shortarse- was it the recent grimsby game where Walker was put on the bench because City were going to struggle with their long throw-ins.
No wonder mighty midget Pointon to a while to get into the team after GA arrived.

I disagree, the difference for me is that when GA made the subs we were in a winning position.

Hughes completely surrended momentum to hold out for a draw. That's the unforgivable bit for me.

If we'd been beating Carlisle, made the sub, still conceded and then lost on penalties it wouldn't have been criticised anywhere near as much.

I personally think there is an overall benefit having a team of six footers , on that basis you could afford the one “ smaller” playmaker . The benefit it gives in the middle of the field when there is a battle going on is that you are more likely to win the header than not.

Imagine Bobby, Chappy and Smith ( or combinations of ) protecting the middle? That’s what GA recognised and quickly dealt with it last night. Credit to him imho.

    This.

Last night the subs were made as the result as it stood would do for us, against an opponent who had nothing to lose and could just go for it for five minutes.

The inexplicable sub against Carlisle was completely different, we weren't in a winning position and our opponent had just as much to lose as we did. We had finally gained a little momentum which we had handed to them at half-time in the first leg, and the managers immediate response killed that stone dead and handed the initiative straight back.

It also contributed to our defence and goalkeeer being all over the place for the goal that cost us, so failed on a tactical/system level.

The difference is we weren't winning when Hughes subbed off Banks unlike yesterday.
