Kavanagh is the missing link. He was everywhere. Winning headers. Cook and young will thrive off him.

Cook would not be in my starting 11 on Saturday. We simply could not have played like last night with him up top - he hasn't the legs or hold up ability. Really tricky one as smith's finishing was, and often is woeful. However, cookie's finishing has been exactly the same this year. Choices, choices.

Well done GA btw - we are seeing signs of progress quite clearly.

We can't because Cook's hold up play is generally non league standard. He is a superb header of the ball - amazing in the air. With feet he is non league. Occasionally it comes off for him - turn at wrexham an example, but 9 times out of 10 he loses the ball and fails to beat a man. His lay off play is generally appauling too. Not just this season, but generally. I know I'll get pelters for saying it - but if you've watched him week in week out and come to a different conclusion then so be it.

Strangely, because I don't rate the EFL (BSM) Trophy as a competition, I've enjoyed the games in the competition this season. I believe its because I've been able to enjoy the football (Derby away and last night in particular) without the result feeling the be all and end all.

    A few positives:
    • in the early stages, it's been a useful way of giving game time to fringe players (and those coming back from injury)
    • £180,000 earned for the Club in participation/prize/TV money;
    • some entertaining football;
    • the chance to 'trial' the Bradford End for home supporters; and
    • in the latter stages, a chance to build some form to, hopefully, take into the remaining league season.

I might just revisit this competition next season (I still won't attend any matches involving under 21 teams though).

Since under 21s were allowed to participate I haven’t attended a single match in this competition even when I lived locally and it would have been hypocritical of me to attend last night.
Of course I wanted the team to reach Wembley and then gone on to win it but I wouldn’t have attended. I fear though that the effort extended for this match with one day less recovery time along with the increased injury list will cost us in a more important game on Saturday

Agree Idle and others, just recalling what was said. I said something similar when Wrexham giving me stick but I didn’t mean it

Was Cook rested or injured ? If fit, we could just have found our best team with Gilly at LWB and Big Kev in centre mid. It's a push to play him everyweek, but we should wrap him in cotton wool and make every effort to keep him in the team.

Terrible take, sorry. You make him sound useless.

he has more assists than anyone else at club does he not? So point about layoff play being appalling isn’t valid either.

who got the golden boot in L2 last year? Scored some amazing goals, most on the deck. One he took on half their team from the touchline!

He’s been below par this year and frustrating but people have short memories. He’d walk into any side in this division, given his record, and plenty in L1.

    Form is temporary………

It's going to be very interesting to see the choice that GA makes.

Yes, Tyler Smith's finishing last night was disappointing. For me, he just doesn't seem to hit the ball that hard. Of the 3-4 chances he had, I feel that if they had fallen to Kavanagh he would have whacked them and perhaps one of them would not have been held and given chance for a follow up.

However, Tyler Smith's movement and link up play definitely causes problems for the Wycombe back line. It helped to create the space for Kavanagh and Oduor as well as giving Kevin McDonald options.

My gut feel is that if Kevin McDonald is fit to play then we stick with last night's team. If he isn't then I would go with Andy Cook up front and a more direct approach.

To all staff behind the scenes you deserve a lot of
praise for getting that game on.
Fantastic effort reflected in a team performance to be proud of.
Passing the ball on that quagmire must have been so difficult yet we achieved it.
No body let us down last night we just couldn't get the ball past their keeper who was outstanding.
Gutted feeling at the end but we all know the old saying football can be cruel and that was certainly the case last night.

I certainly wouldn’t go as far as the post you replied to, nowhere near, but there will be a time for horses for courses . Take Barrow away, in fact Barrow full stop. Canavan who turns on a roundabout, and is a big lad , has had from memory Cookie in his pocket ever since he left the club.
My thought process is pace and trickery will undo him easily and use Cookie later in the game fresh against a tiring Canavan.
It probably won’t happen if Young isn’t fit, so hey.

No can’t agree, Canavan loves playing against Cook, banging it airborne won’t work!

Agree its horses for courses at times. The problems for Cook are partly his own fault at times but mainly due to dire service. We have been playing better lately though. He had a great game vs MKD and wasted two chances vs Sutton he should have scored.

But I see it merely as a dip in form, not that he’s poor with his feet as the other post suggested.

I would like to see a Kavanagh / Young partnership up front Hulme. Smith a tad disappointing last night.
With no Cook it was refreshing to see us actually playing football where it should be played - on the floor with energy, pace and decent shooting overall.
Let's see if we can continue this lovely brand of football on Saturday!

I knew it wouldn't go down well but stand by it. At many aspects of the game he is useless I'm afraid. If you're claiming he's regularly going to run through a defence and put one away I'd say your take is terrible. We can find exceptions to most rules.

His form has been temporary most of the season. I wouldn't start him Saturday - I'd like to see if we can continue in the vein of last night and put a league 2 side to the sword in that manner.

In the short term I take your point, in his current form he might not be a certain starter for everyone (he would be for me) but statements like ‘he’s useless at certain aspects’ undermine the rest of your valid points. Football isn’t for you if you think Cook is useless

Unfortunately Smallwood is suspended so that will give us problems and if Kelly is out Stubbs will be needed at the back. I hope Richards can play
