I couldn't have put it any better myself, with regards the letting agent we only have Athwal word that he was oblivious to what was going on.

the agency will have notified him as soon as the tenants complained. He may not have listened to the voicemail or read the email but odds on they have a record of notifying him .

He's either a reprehensible landord who knew and allowed it or he's a negligent landlord who has no idea what's happening with his properties. Either way he's the very sort of person he campaigns against. He should have the licences, which HE introduced and doesn't even have mind you, refused. I mean how can he possibly say he wasn't aware of that fact. If this was someone like me or you he would be telling people he would be coming after us and putti g pressure on the council to stop us being landlords. Stamer needs to suspend and investigate.

Call me suspicious but whats interesting to me is who has been managing the properties and what relationship he has to that company. He's sacked them quickly which is fine on the face of it but what he's not said is who they are. He describes himself as a champion for renters, why not expose this despicable company and look to see if he can take action against them.

The press could easily find out who managing agents were/are just by asking the tenants who seemed fine speaking to them on/off the record previously so I'm not sure why they aren't doing that. The other dodgy thing is that he claimed that his licenses were all correct and now he is saying that he has found an email telling him they are out of date. So if he has 'missed' that email what other emails has he 'missed' about the flats

I'm just a very suspicious individual especially when it comes to politicians. How on earth has he "missed" an email about 15 licences that he has forced landlords to get and pay for. If this was a private individual who's properties had the same issues and no licence i doubt very much they would just be able to say sorry the penalties for not having the licence is below. Given all the circs how could the council not prosecute i dont care how sorry he is.

Alot of them seem to have a do as I say not what I do attitude and think they don't have to face the same consequences as everyone else. I'm surprised this isn't a bigger story than it has been especially seeing as how renters seems to be quite a key issue for him.

Penalties for not having a Licence
Operating a rented property without a licence is an offence. The Council can issue you with a Financial Penalty of up to £30,000 or if prosecuted in court the fine can be unlimited.

Additionally, tenants in a unlicensed property can reclaim from you up to 12 months’ rent through a Rent Repayment Order (RRO) and your ‘section 21’ eviction powers are also removed by operating without a licence.

It's a Labour Council and a Labour MP. What do you think?

Whatever are you suggesting one law for one section of the community and another law for other members.

I would have thought they can especially seeing as he has admitted it. Wether they will or not I think we both know the answer he's said sorry after all that'll do for me! He used to be the council leader as well so I'm sure his mates at that same council know he means it so that's fine no need to prosecute that's how it works isn't it. Remember there's no such thing as two tier justice in this country.

    Getting back on topic.

Don't worry, not all pensioners are losing their winter fuel payments.

As well as those on Pensions Credit, a select group of pensioners and non-pensioners will be keeping their winter fuel payments, as well as their spring, summer and autumn fuel payments. This select group are paid over £90,000 per annum and number approximately 650.

After some thought, I've decided to take my first ever winter fuel "payment" from the "government".

I've carefully selected 4 City matches that I was planning to go to by train, which I will no longer use the train for. I'll be starting with the Harrogate away match, for which I've now switched to going by car. My total savings will be just over £200.

There seems to be some poetic justice in taking my £200 from the railways, which are subsidised by the government.

Funny how the government are so desperate for savings they take the winter fuel allowance from them but can suddenly find the same amount to give to Ukraine for weapons
