When will Beesley bag one for City?

He had a poor game for sure. Clearly needs to break his duck soon but I for one am not writing him off after just a handful of games.

 

Beesley was being held by the big centre half all of the time and never got anything from the ref, we never gave him much chance with our lack of passing ability.

I keep seeing comments like this on here and all over social media after every game, with comments like 'once he gets one he'll bag loads'. I hope he does but I've seen nothing to convince me he will.

Beesley has been a success everywhere he has been and here won’t be an exception

 

He did well at the Stans and Burton but was average elsewhere.. I'm hoping we can get the best out of him because he has the attributes we need but it's not working for him today.

However I don't really blame him for his inability to grow 25 feet to meet some of the god awful passes that were lumped forward and clean out of play today.

Today was absolutely chronic in terms of service, and Powell was also made to look like he'd never seen grass before, but it very definitely wasn't his fault either.

 

Unfortunately Beesley brimgingi "just what we needed to the team" is fast becoming the biggest myth since Rhys Evans not being able to dive to his left.

I like the lad and I hope he succeeds but pretending he's winning stuff, holding it up and generally bringing the team forward, at this point, is just a fallacy.

 

He wasn’t great yesterday, but he wasn’t the only one. Gary Jones said several times in commentary during the second half, we need to play down the channels. We did that in the first half and he did ok. Second half we were generally pretty poor aside of the 3x CBs and Connelly, so Beesley was no worse than those around him IMO.

 

I cant believe people are still surprised he's not scoring, he averages 6 goals a season, with last season being his best by quite some way at 13 (of which 3 were pens). We have signed a striker who doesn't score many (thats the way Alexander likes em) so we are going to have to get used to it.

 

Constantly lumping balls forward and watching him get no change from the centre half, yet not one other player on the pitch or member of the coaching staff decided to change it. Yesterday felt like we had to win at all costs and by lumping the ball 70 yards down field, meant the ball was kept away from our goal. Someone asked if we'd bought the wrong type of striker and that's certainly looking that way at the moment. Yesterday was a typical league 2 fest. Poor quality from both sides and very few chances, particularly second half. Those lads brought in from the championship clubs must be wondering what the hell they've done.

We are at the moment one dimensional. The second half was particularly teeth grinding. Once again we struggle to score goals. We still have lots of improvement needed to compete at the top of the table, and we have a new team that is still settling in. 5 games in and I don’t think GA knows what his best team is. Very pleased with the 3 points though.

 

Exactly. He's never been prolific so why some think he's suddenly going to start bagging 15-20 goals a season with us is baffling.

 

Unless we play with Sarcevic further forward our goal output is going to be low. We miss the guile and nouce that he has, which no other player seems capable of producing. We have very little 'off the cuff' play and rely too much on the diagonals and pretty triangles in the corners that rarely present a decent chance for a striker like Beesley in the box. We've failed to create decent chances for a number of seasons now, hence the low goal output. It's so predictable and easy to defend against. Our strategy seems to be about nicking one then keeping them out.

 

I've not mentioned his goal threat yesterday, it was his general play that was way off the standard required.

 

I just want him to start with a successful 5 yard pass and to trap a ball. Then we can go from there.

 

I don’t disagree but as GA reminds us, our XG says something different. I actually think we do create enough chances, it’s just they most come from one style of play which when it works is entertaining to watch. Problem is we don’t convert enough of those chances. Phillips should have had two yesterday and Bobby one - despite the saves from Lewis, I’d expect us to score those.

I actually think our quality of shots from outside of the box has marginally improved. We seem to be hitting the target more often or going close. Connelly has been good in that area. We’re desperately missing Tyriek Wrights output on the left meaning a lot on Neufvilles shoulders.

Still early days with a new style - I think 10x league games in will be a good barometer to properly evaluate where we are at.
