In the first four games he definitely did less so in last couple. I love Powell and would start him if he was available but Beesley will come good again

Part of the problem is not Beesley's.

A lot of our balls to him are aimless. Contrast with the balls into Smyth for them in the first half where he could control them on his chest, thigh, body. Beesley is trying to win headers but heading to who?

Bower said the same on commentary.

Then Powell comes on and the aimless balls continue except he wasn't having it. He gave a right mouthful to all the defenders who were aimlessly hoofing the ball.

Long balls work ok when they are directed.

The Doggie fans are having buyers remorse about Fletcher for similar failings.

After a month I'm happy to admit that Beesley doesn't much look to be the answer but to pretend the solution is Humphrys after 12 months of watching him is certainly a stretch.

When he played against us , everyone saying wish we had him , and let’s get him next season , he played with a co striker next to him . He is basically playing as alone striker for us running the channels that Humphrey’s won’t do and certainly Powell can’t do .alexander will love him because he’s a team player , working for the team , it’s a insult for people to compare him with Oliver

Why can't Powell do it? Today he popped up in that left channel 3 times and twice it led to either a ball in the box or a shot. He would have also been away in the channel another time of he wasn't harshly penalised for a foul.

Running the channels isn't just about pure pace, It's more about intelligence and timing which Powell has in abundance.

Not that we need our number 9 running the channels much anyway as we've usually got a wide 10 and a wingback bombing on into that space.

I don't disagree that the approach play was poor at times but Powell consistently makes more from them than Beesley which is then making Beesley look even worse.

We can all agree that Powell is the better technician and overall footballer but Beesley is younger, fitter and has more pace yet at this point they don't even look like they belong in the same division, never mind with Beesley the first choice.

We need supply of chances first.
The amount of times players chose not to cross the ball today was unbelievable.
Also in his defence he had his shirt nearly ripped off about 10 times before the ref even gave him a free kick.

Because Powell can’t run he’s got ability but prefers to be aggressive and just give fouls away

Sorry but I think strikers do have to score goals to be effective! Perhaps not bucket fulls, but certainly some. A return rate of 15 for the season would be very decent 1:3 ratio, or a more modest 1:4 resulting in around 11/12 a season.
Strikers need to contribute lots of elements to the team: harrying the opposition defence; creating space for other players; defending set pieces, and providing direct assists, to name a few.
However to get to the point where we are six games in and Beesley hasn’t had a single goal, must be a concern (well it is for me). Hopefully Jake will come good. But even if he manages to achieve the lower ratio of 1:4, he will only get 10 for the season.

We aren't going to do much better than Humphrys. I think he's dramatically under rated. Throughout all of last season we looked more dangerous when he was on the pitch. Obviously on a message board most players divide opinion but as far as I'm concerned Humphrys makes things happen up top more than any other player we've had on our books since we've been in this league. I respect that you might disagree but I can only go on what I feel I can see with my own eyes.

I called when he signed and did the press photo with Hanson. Big Jim looked like he was meeting a school kid with some kind of disability

Pay me £5k a week and I’ll run around and challenge for headers with no plan or skill for them if I win the ball
