The use of the Welsh language has increased over the years. I doubt it will be the 1st language used in urban areas as these are the places other nationalities come and work.

I worked in Connahs Quay near Flint in North Wales and it was probably 30% Welsh and 70% Eastern European.

When I went to primary school in Cardiff in the late 70s, we did learn Welsh and school assemblies were bilingual. A quick look at the school website confirms that Welsh is still on the curriculum.

Both my children were educated in Wales. My son lost his Yorkshire accent in about three weeks. They were both taught Welsh in school.

My Gran who was from South Shields, Tyneside, moved to North Wales to a tiny village near Denbigh after my Grandad died, her sister (my great aunt) moved down too. They spent some fantastic times there and were always welcomed by the locals, I went there during the school hols as a young whipper snapper and loved every minute of it, even Rhyl wasn't too bad then :)

I spent a lot of time in Denbigh and its surrounding areas during my 2 years of working in Wales in 2021/22.

3 work colleagues and I had an Airbnb in Llansannan.

I like Wales lovely country and never had any issues with any locals despite going many times (North coast and across to Anglesey). It’s got an interesting backstory compared with the rest of the UK and Ireland. Despite it being under the English influence for much longer than Scotland and Ireland it actually kept its national language much longer, it was still up at around 90% Welsh speakers in the nineteenth century but much less at that time in Ireland and Scotland. So Wales never really lost its language, but Cardiff being tiny in the early nineteenth century grew exponentially and that brought with it more and more of the English language.

So, no problem with me if Welsh want to speak Welsh in their own country. Unlike the Irish they’ve not had to revive it (which I have always felt they did just to escape an English association), as it never went away it just got dwarfed by rapid urban growth.

Cardiff fans have seemed a really decent bunch this season. No stupid comments like ‘how are these third’, I think they’re the only club to actually give us any credit. Good luck to them, they’re the best team I’ve seen this season.

I love the Welsh scenery, towns and villages, been many times to Snowdonia(or whatever scrabble word it's called now), the north coast and Anglesea. In fact, we're going for a week in Easter, to Conwy.
Pity there's so many scousers and welsh folks there.:D

Fair point, do you want to advise how far back in the # numbers I should go and I will transfer them all. A bit difficult to disentangle, but as you are raising it.

Give @Dennis@Dennis a shout. He told everyone that it was really easy to remove posts that add no benefit in the Pattison thread.

A number of English teams have entered the Welsh Cup over the years, although some have found the extra costs of hosting such matches as not worth it.

Back in the 1980s Kidderminster Harriers had to increase their programme price, to cover the extra ink required, for their Welsh Cup 3rd round tie:
