Seems a sound enough signing. Still worried about Tilt/Kelly on the left who aren't good enough imo and looks like our biggest weakness back there.

 

Its all gunna comw down to pre season where the back 5 ia concerned. Rest of the side picks itself really but the 3 CBs and 2 WGs is going to come down to pre season.

 

Defence pretty much sorted now, so let's get a PROVEN finisher through the door, because it's goals that will define where we finish next season.

 

TBF Bruce went on record saying he is a great pro and valuable member of the squad and he wanted him to stay......but yeh he wasnt going to be a first choice. Similar to the Kelly situation here I guess. Difference been Pennington had a better offer.

Having listened to his interview he's definitely the most articulate of our summer signings. I've no idea if he's any good.

 

Kelly will be first choice IMO. Whenever fit, he has played.

 

I don’t understand this clamour by a tiny few who think Kelly will be a first choice defender, I’m sorry I really don’t believe he will be .

Of course I will say why. Based on he’s left of a 3 . WE DO NOT PLAY A FLAT BACK 4

• He’s a bang average L2 defender ( Not even in the same mould as Platt and even he is average )
• He’s zero experience in L1
• He’s not all that fast and too muscular to turn quickly.
• His distribution, a base requirement of a back 3, is shocking .( I dare you to watch the Fleetwood game back again…It was cringeworthy , especially in the first half , overhit and aimless multiple times . (I even commented during the half time break from memory)
• His injury record ( goes towards the consistency and effectiveness of the whole defence ) is at best average at worst is poor so we have an inconsistent back three.
• The club only offered him a one year deal which means they have the same amount of faith in him as me , whether it be fitness or capability.

Pros
He can head a ball and is sound defending our box (outside it he’s exposed for the reason stated)

I will be stunned if he’s first choice in the back three .

I would be more than happy on reading why you suggest my observations are wrong.
