    Interesting that City are calling him a midfielder in his press release? Looks like he's played DM a little bit in his career, but he's mainly been a defender.

    Primarily played as CB. Can play at RB and CDM. Perhaps a replacement for an outgoing Pennington?

    This is the first signing I don't really understand. No better than the options we already have at centre half and if he's being brought in to replace Power/Metcalfe then I am very disappointed.

    No idea who he is. Looks like all his experience is at the championship and league 1 level at decent-sized clubs, so that's something. Good luck to the lad.

    Exactly how I feel. A bit concerning they’ve said he is a midfielder in press release. And then Simon Parker has said he’s earmarked to play the sitting role

    Over a150 appearances in the Championship and can play a number of positions. It makes a lot of sense.

    We’ve signed Phillips who’s better suited as a number 10 but can play as a CM, and now Connolly who’s primarily a CB but can play in midfield. 2 solid additions on paper but I just hope we plan on playing them in their primary positions and don’t try to shoehorn them in elsewhere.

    I'd say our two main mids last season (who now have since departed) were also sitting mids rather than attacking or box to box mids. So has he been brought in as replacement for Power/Metcalfe.

    How do you know either assumptions are correct? How do you know one of the existing centre backs hasn’t asked to move on ? He could be brought in as cover . It’s all supposition until the season starts .

    He was starting every game (apart from a few weeks out with a knock) until the end of November then didn't feature again at all due to injury apart from 45 minutes in an FA Cup game and a last minute cameo in the play off final.

    Looks like Connolly's main time playing DM/CM was in the 17/18 season playing the season there for Ipswich. Since then he's been a CB for his career with the odd run of games in midfield. His most back in midfield since were 12 games in the 22/23 season with Blackpool, he picked up 5 yellows in those 12.

    From the noise it sounds like he is the Power replacement and it doesn't sound like he is the best on the ball. Not to mention he hasn't played since November last season other than a 1 minute cameo in the play off final.
