Right and who - who is wanting to buy the club off them that fits your requirements?

NEWS FLASH - previously we had Lawn/Rhodes and before that we had Gibb and before that we had Big Geoff who nearly bankrupted us.

Who is going to take this sleeping giant that has spent 37 seasons out of the last 50 seasons in L1 & L2.

Not true. They were in the Championship in 2013-2012-2010. Peterborough are a small club punching above their weight and their model has taken them further than us the last 15 years.

The posh have according to a report I saw recently banked over 22 million in player sales in recent years. They don’t have the ground capacity or crowd potential we have and whilst they have spent a bit a lot has gone back into the club. If we generate that sort of money it would be great

As it turns out, despite a few wobbles, he has seen his dream and investment pay off, not just for the Club and fans but also for the town itself. That's what makes it real worthwhile. We've had a taste ourselves and you can't help but feel envious of their success. But one unfortunate offside goal cost us a Championship place and that step nearer.

Agreed - the model can work. £22m sounds about right - if Marriot and Maddison are sold this summer will be closer to £30m.

I’m not saying it’s a bad idea, it might work, provide the talent and finance to get us promoted but if we’re so convinced by this why are we reducing the playing budget?

Ok. So, they've had 5 years in League One and the model couldn't sustain them in the Championship.

    Enough said.

I just want things to be a bit clearer - as @JonButterfield@JonButterfield said yesterday - if we're going to settle for a period of consolidation, and anything more is a bonus then let us know, and probably more importantly, let any prospective manager know this.
it's no good saying all this, on the same day that Simon Grayson has decided to leave because they expect him to deliver a promotion while providing a consolidation and introduce young players budget and philosophy.

this is after they told us last week lessons have been learned, what lessons? I would have hoped it would have been to do with not expecting promotion on low budgets, and not sacking managers at the first sign of a rocky patch when over performing but it wouldn't seem that way on the face of it.

No not at all,its about spending what we have coming in at this moment in time.what we have to spend after all the various well known out lays we have is just above middle of the table playing budget.how whom ever uses this is entirely up to them, whether that will be fees on transfers or just on wages(may be higher than last seasons)free transfers etc.
The budget could and most likely change due to people been off loaded ie wyke andcwhom ever else and maybe a contracted player or two leaving for nominal fee/fees to free up more of the available budget.its not rocket science to work out that we have and will have the oppertunity to re build and re shape our squad/first team and future this summer and to me thats an exciting thought.

McGowan was brought in on the 24th of January. The only player we had signed early was Callum Guy.

I wonder if the club had considered trying to get sponsors for the youth and development squad

The peterborough model works, principally because:

    1) They have a solid scouting network - they'e not fishing around for German amateurs
    2) They'll spend the going rate on players of genuine talent and promise
    3) They'll also spend the going rate on salaries
    4) They don't hamstring their managers or mislead fans by talking openly of automatic promotion and then setting mid table budgets
    5) They're ruthless. They don't tolerate mediocrity to anything like the extent we do. You don't perform and you're gone.

A strange approach ........ But ..... If possible, what I'd like to see are One year contracts offered (to new recruits) with a further 12 month option loaded in our favour, rather than any instant 2 year deals. In January, the club could 'trigger' this clause, thereby fending off any suitors to a degree, whilst also keeping the player longer. At the same time, if things haven't worked out, then neither the Club or player are 'saddled' with each other for 2 years.
Not picking on the lad - But McCartan a player in point. IF the club actually want to off load him this Summer, will he willingly go ? I imagine the Club would want a fee, but may have to suffer a loss ?
