Spot on. It has nothing to do with anyone else why ppl don’t turn up for any given match. We don’t always make it due to health grounds. The club have their money, not sure they would want to upset their income source. Maybe they will do what the PL do, reserve the best seats for foreign nationals as they pay more.

As I say, I've been a season ticket holder since the ground re opened, regardless of cost so people can find it as odd as they want, it's very unlikely to change.

I guess you’re keeping your fingers crossed that we stay in the lower leagues and the club don’t have to impose minimum attendance like they have at Leeds.

Does regularly being in the top tier of City points for away priority count as "minimum attendance"?

Asking for me and my kids?

Well then you clearly attend more games than you implied in earlier posts.

As I posted you have a problem if posting on a forum at 9:30 to get a bite gets you off.

I just get my brother or kids to scan my ticket once they've done theirs. They are always happy to do it on the turnstiles they reckon.

A decent proportion will be children's tickets. Parent buys a couple for their children at £40 a season for the pair. Childen don't like it and never go. They still renew year upon year in case the children decide that they want to go after all. "Even if they only go to 3 games I've made my money back" etc etc.

£35 for the extra seat now. Lounging out is getting to be expensive.

Doncaster run that exact scheme and there are always empty seats. I suppose it's about where you sit in the ground i.e behind the goal, behind the dugout, or on the halfway line that would appeal, rather than a seat stuck away in the corners or up in the gods.

Empty seats soon accumulate if there’s 500 others who do the same.
Hopefully if the team keeps progressing and we reach the championship it’s quite feasible that we’ll sell 20000 season tickets and VP will be a closed shop to walk ups on the day and non ST holders.
Is it then still acceptable that seats are blocked in this way or should the club take action?

Maybe the club could analyse how many games you attended and if below a certain threshold, they could ask if you'll consider letting your seat go if its not being used. We probably don't have enough staff to do that and follow it up, but if we progress they may have to. The other thing to consider is how many fans buy kids tickets and then let adult friends use them?

That wouldn’t need staff, only to run the report showing attendance rate per ticket, it should be quite straightforward

If there were a scheme which allowed for reselling of a seat, then I would anticipate that it would have a process like this:

The club is notified that by the Season Ticket holder they will not be attending a match.

The club processes the notification and provides a refund.

The ticket is then sold on at the usual pre match price.

Firstly this takes time, which equals a cost even if all done digitally.

Secondly if 3,000 returned their tickets, especially for a Tuesday night game, the club may only sell 1,500. So it would make a loss!

If the Season Ticket price is around a £10 for an adult per match, or less for the £40 a season kids, then there is little/no financial incentive for the supporter.

Penalising Supporters, by introducing some form of penalty, would alienate a lot.

As has been pointed out, someone else, on entering the ground can always get a second scan.

Until the ground is ‘officially selling out’ on a regular basis, there seems to be little in it for the club or absentee supporter.

It’s like life, sometimes there are things happening which you don’t like, but you have to adapt and put up with it.

Again though, how does this system even impact the club?

If the seat is paid for every game then it's paid for. Unless the ground is made bigger then the revenue is the same whether I sit in my seat, no one sits in my seat or I dont renew and someone else buys the ticket and uses the seat.

    Am I missing something here?

And what if they say no thanks Einstein, I clearly don't want to give the ticket up. That's why I renew every year.

    What then?

Just wait till a cold Tuesday night in December and this conversation will have little merit as less than 10,000 loyal fans will inhabit the stands at VP.
