We all hear stories and rumours but the above mentioned, stated he knew Robinson personally and had it on good authority he would be back "very soon" which we now know wasn't the case. Robinson himself won't have a clue on when his case will be finalised - never mind his supporters.

Once the CPS have made charge/no charge decision then no doubt it will be announced in the press. It is slow, but you can be reassured that it is slow for everyone who may be caught up in a Police investigation. Whoever in CPS is making that decision will also have a pile of files to deal with as well

There is normally a considerable amount of back and forth to deal with as well.

Just a very frustrating situation this all round. We're left in limbo having to pay a wage.
If he gets charged its likely he will end up being fired.
If it gets dropped we've missed months of him playing which could have helped us get some vital points on the board.
Also, we don't really know what to do in the transfer window. Do we need to sign an extra winger or not?
Imagine if charges get dropped in April but we end up in the bottom 4 by 1 point

I was a witness in a less serious case - it was at magistrates court level and that took about a year to go to court. These things take time and the club will therefore have written off this season in terms of his contribution if they have any sense. In other words work on the assumption he wont be back in the team and plan accordingly. To be sure we may have missed him but thats no different to losing any player through injury, loan recall, loss of form so I don't buy the argument that his absence will cost us. It is not as though we would have been building the team around him ( although given other decisions at the time maybe we were!). If we go down by 1 point it will be because the rest of the team were not good enough

It seems to have taken a long time to gather evidence and for the CPS to charge him That says to me there is a chance they haven't found a lot.

If they had enough evidence he would be charged by now. This happened 5 months ago.

I wouldn’t make that assumption, sensitive cases do take time. I think the right assumption would be they are making sure that all the evidence out there is properly examined before they come to any decision and that it is in the public interest to prosecute or not.

You're spot on. Its a very sensitive case, in many ways. It won't be resolved quickly and I don't expect to see him in a City shirt this season.

Frustrating as it may be from a purely footballing perspective, some things are much bigger. This is one such example and the only thing that matters is that justice is done, and that those involved are represented as fairly as possible. However long it takes.

I was told right away that this probably wouldn't get dealt with and finished this season. Read a paper, look at the date of an original crime compared to when the case is dealt with in court. More often than not, its much, much later.

Not sure why people think 5 months is an overly long time?

I wonder if technically you are paying him. When players are injured for an extended period the insurance on them will cover the wages and I wonder if perhaps this will be the case here. Or at least if the case gets dropped that insurance may pay out. And if he gets charged I would imagine you would go after him for the money paid as he would be in breach of his contract

Most likely due to TV which is where most peoples insight into the legal system will come from. For entertainment purposes, they obviously speed everything up significantly and that makes people think that collecting and processing evidence, taking statements, building a case etc etc takes much less time than in reality it does where even a fairly simple case might take nearly a year so as to ensure every base is covered

They have to take their time. If a person could, if found guilty, be sentenced to a long time in prison, it’s only right that the evidence is collected and reviewed to understand whether there is a realistic chance of a conviction and if any prosecution is in the public interest (very different to of interest to the public). If it were you or I or one of our family members under suspicion, or indeed the victim of a crime, we would want the police and the CPS to be as thorough as possible.

Oh and the criminal justice system, like many things apart from Brexit, is criminally underfunded.

Insurance will only pay out if this type of event is covered by it which I would think unlikely. A lot of clubs lower down the leagues don’t even insure players for injuries unless it ends the career as it is t cost effective.
Even if he is in breach of contract we would have to pay him until we dismiss him rather than date of incident.

If he’d murdered someone and they had gathered enough evidence, he’d have been charged by now. Admittedly it wouldn’t have gone to trial yet, but he’d have still been charged

Completely different kettle of fish though Jon. You’re trying to compare apples with oranges there.

Nobody is saying his trial should have been done and dusted. But surely it shouldn’t take over 5mths to know whether there is sufficient evidence as to charge or not?

You’re right in that there are many cases that take forever to go to court..... but many of these were charged within days, weeks of the alleged offence taking place.

Ched Evans’ case, for example, saw his accuser claim an offence took place on 30 May 2011. He was found guilty, after the initial trial, on 20 April 2012, almost a year later. However, when was he actually charged with the offence? It was 8 August 2011, just 10wks after the alleged offence.

So why is it taking so long to gather sufficient evidence to charge him?

Whilst the majority of that is true, I’m sure there won’t be many happy to wait 12mths just to get to the stage of whether you are to be tried or not. Many would want to know if there are grounds to be charged sooner rather than later and if there isn’t enough evidence, that they are free to carry on their business.

There are that many crimes being committed, that it might be a simple case of a massive backlog to get through. Unfortunate for all concerned but indicative of broken Britain.
