This left winger.....it's not Lloyd Isgrove is it? @Faithful Bantam@Faithful Bantam loves that guy almost as much as I love Stuart McCall.

No, it's you that's not getting it.

I'll spell it out for you.

    A) we shouldn't be putting too much pressure on a player that's been out for other a year to come back and be INFLUENTIAL for us.

    B) At this moment I have to question his match fitness and sharpness

    C) I think out central midfield area is weak with or without Reeves at this moment in time and I want better.

    D) We'll wish him well either way.

    E) MOVE ON FROM THIS NOW! Let's talk about it in 2 WEEKS!

That still doesn’t make him a better leader, it makes him an experienced leader. Leaders are born it is in your DNA, ie the aptitude to be a leader. Paudie has it, he took it on last season despite our precarious position, that not only makes him leader material, but into the Gary Jones mould of never say die attitude. Real leaders are not only successful but always have an eye as to where they are taking the team.

    One last point to reiterate.

If he’s match fit, it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that Jake Reeves could well be an influential player next season.

That, and only that, was my point; but well done for throwing other points into the debate that weren’t even mentioned in my original post - it’s something you’re quite good at.

I don't think he is good enough.

However, what's worrying is that you've more hopes for him than the players that are currently in the squad.

It's one of the reasons why I think we urgently need to improve on the midfield area. Far too shi&e.

Sorry, but that whole 'leaders are born rather than made' argument is so out of date it's almost from the 19th century. There's lots of different types/styles of leaders, leadership by example is just one of them. Whether that's the only one that's used in football teams and management I don't know. I'd be surprised if, as an industry, football's more enlightened and progressive clubs aren't already fully on top of the whole science of management and leadership type stuff. There's too much money floating around at the top of the game for it not to be the case. Yes, there's a lot of corporate jargon/management speak surrounding these types of topics, but it isn't all airy fairy, arty farty hogwash.

Well from what I have seen you have to have the desire to be a leader or the propensity to be a leader. Of course there is different types of leaders, but we are talking football, leading by example is one that is used in football think Beckham, he lead by example and excellence. You don’t have to a shouty type either. In my view no matter what type of leader you are, you still have to have ‘it’ in your DNA. Then you can enhance your leadership skills in whatever sphere you wish. I have seen a number of ppl who are excellent in their field, but don’t want to take on a formal leadership role. I have also seen ppl who are just natural leaders, and do so formal or not. As FB has already mentioned, Gary Jones, had several informal leaders to assist and deputise for him.

NB. Just because a theory has history, it doesn’t necessarily mean it becomes out of date as you imply. All theories are built on rather than dismissed.

We're going off on a tangent here, but I'm in the process of moving into an Executive leadership position with a new company - one of the reasons I'm able to post so often at the minute is the beauty of being on Garden Leave! Anyhow, part of the recruitment process involved extensive psychometric testing and a series of lengthy interviews with an (esteemed!) occupational psychologist. A very interesting experience, I have to say. Those interviews explore your leadership skills and style and much of the dialogue focused on early life experiences and upbringing, with the school of thinking being that your character is formed in your childhood years. So I think leadership is a combination of both - something that's formed in your very early years, but shaped as you grow. I don't think age makes you more of an inherent leader, but as you develop any skill you become better able to execute on it.

A young leader can still be a good leader. And depending on how you lead, time and experience may make you more able to lead effectively, or less able.

I just think we need an experienced leader at this stage and where the club is at.

Sure the more cups of tea you make the more experience you will get. Mines tea with no sugar.

Bang on the money @Fordy117@Fordy117 , I'm really not sure why anyone would even attempt to argue with that.

Is he? His brother was killed in a stabbing in leeds, have the stories been mixed somewhere.

Either way having done so well in league one on loan, he has nothing to prove to drop to league 2 on loan

His brother was killed, but he is definitely due to go on trial for allegedly stabbing someone at Chapeltown Carnival.
