Can you imagine going through life as a monarch and one of the last people one is likely to see is Boris, bloody Johnson.

It's not at all. The Queen has died, it's not the time for frivolous pisstaking comedy like have I got news for you or the kind of trash they show on bbc3

I honestly don’t see the point in cancelling the weekends games. In fact, I think people may want to use those games as a means of coming together and paying their respects via minutes silences etc. I just don’t really understand it.

I despise Liz Truss's politics and hope to see her booted out of office at the next election. I am also not a monarchist at all. But I was genuinely glad that it was Truss rather than the fat clown Boris Bunter who delivered the speech from outside No10 yesterday. I've no doubt that he would have somehow contrived to make part of it about him, which would have been utterly disrespectful.

I have some respect and will tow the line on the day of her funeral when everything understandably will be on hold and the entire nation will be watching.

But why should the wishes of royalists be rammed down my throat?

A lot of the ‘mourning is fake’. I’d mourn the passing of a relative, to whom I have a genuine connection, but as I’m not older generation, the Monarchy means little to me.

I respect what she has done in her role over the last 70 years but I don’t see how cancelling sport for 10 days - and closing many other businesses at the same time - equates to showing respect.

Those who want to mourn can, the rest of us who want to crack on, should be able to. Some won’t even bother watching the funeral, yet we’re all stuck in limbo.

Truss did say she wanted to abolish the monarchy. She's made an early start, it seems.

So do we all have to be miserable for 1/3 of a month? No of course not , but I dislike intently anyone dictating to me how I grieve and for how long. Same applies to the City disaster , 911 and so on. Life goes on . This country is in a bad enough state already without shutting it down and taking more out of the economy for another 10 days, which in effect these unnecessary “ bans” on sporting events is doing. The immediate aftermath of HM passing aka this weekend is fine, appropriate and measured but 10 days!!

Which his speech the other day was exactly about….poor him. The obese drunk got his comeuppance and so will Truss for supporting his lies for three years. It would have been rank hypocritical if he delivered the speech yesterday because he actually lied to HM.

Queen Elizabeth wasn't simply a well regarded elderly lady who had tea with Paddington Bear. She was our country's Head of State and part of our history and heritage stretching back more that a thousand years! As HoS, she will be lain in state during a period of mourning so that we can all pay our respects to her prior to her funeral. That's what our country has always done.

It's right therefore that all of our institutions also pay their respects and reflect this in their own schedules. The FA has had royal patronage for a long time with her grandson Prince William as its President. Of course the FA and the rest of the footballing community will pay their respects and if it means cancelling a couple of games, so be it.

Im genuinely surprised how many people think so highly of the Royal Family, but I guess it is a generational thing. To me they serve no purpose in current society other than being a tourism benefit.

The way the noncey antics of Prince Andrew have been swept under the carpet is a disgrace. The death of Dodi Al Fayed looked very fishy and Prince Harry looks more like he’s James Hewitt’s. The less said about actor Megan, and her taking Harry off the rails, the better. With all that in mind, Lizzy did remarkably well to reach 96.

Sorry if my views offend others but inflicting ten days of mourning misery on the entire nation - when some feel little for them beyond the sympathy that an elderly lady has died - is typical of their own feeling of self importance in this country.

What important and meaningful duties do they actually perform these days?

I totally understand the country in mourning the day she died, even day after and the funeral. But anything else is excessive in my view. She was a hard working woman who always met her responsibilities head on, she’d probably say herself the show must go on.

Also poor Wilsden is working today, no 10 days mourning for myself. The show must go on!

I doubt your views will offend people; you're quite entitled to hold those views imo.

Personally speaking, my respect is for the serving Head of State, a role which is an intrinsic part of our country's proud heritage stretching back centuries, and definitely doesn't extend to every member of the Royal family!
