Exactly, the limited data available to us.

Hughes, Hodges, Gent and all of our scouting team will have access to top of the range scouting software and can watch hours and hours of detailed footage at the click of a button. Not to mention their own reports from their scouting assignments across the season(s).

I agree that for example Lewis on paper is vastly inexperienced (53 games in 6 years) however if the management team feel he is the right player for us then ultimately we have to trust that.

Walker was our best player a league above the rest

Finally, we are starting to see some people that get it.

The club are not going to come out and say we have a 2 year plan.

I don’t think Smallwood or Walker will be here to play L2 footy, but I agree there is a plan, a shift in approach, a few players of absolute quality and some decent young players with L2 experience and potential to develop. It seems a long time since the club had a real saleable asset in the first team and in the lower league with limited funds that’s got to be the way forward.

For too long we’ve missed a team that has a solid base and grows each season, part of the sack mentality, and signing old has beans (McCall’s trick) hopefully these contracts and bringing in youth bring some stability.

I agree. They do have a 2 year plan. A plan to get promoted this season and a plan to have players ready (with a year of development) for League 1 football.

If you dont think promotion is the aim this year then I dont know how else you need convincing. Hughes has pretty much said it in the press and every player he has signed understands that.

You moan constantly about our lack of ambition then sneer when the club and fans talk about promotion.

I have said we need to look at this is a two year project. The club have said their aim is promotion but they like everyone else have said it may take another season. They are paying two and three year contracts. That in my view is a nod to this May take longer than this season. I have also said that it may take more than preseason to get them ready. However, they are having a good go at it bringing the players in early and off on a bonding exercise.
Most City fans are realistic. What has excited me more than individual players is our approach to our quest to gain promotion. We look and feel like a professional outfit from top to bottom.

Agree with Mr Pinto on this one. Don't think Messrs Smallwood and Walker would have signed if we had put promotion in 2 years to them

Strange post really, defenders do lose men sometimes from corners.

This whole talk of our best 3 players leaving needs to be looked into further

Paudie was our only out an out centre back last season after January. Canavans form up until then was questionable, probably down to his relationship with Adams

Watt was the only player even capable of stringing some decent passes in the midfield, even if they didn’t come off. Sutton is more of a box to box an his form dropped after covid. Evans legs had gone

As for Vernam, Without Eisa available, he was the only out an out winger we had at the club. Not to take away the fact that he played very well in half of his appearances

They were the 3 best players over the course of the season, but in reality, our best players would of been

Ridehalgh : Started the season well, dropped off due to injury an poor team form

Songo : Was the Most improved player under Hughes an outshone Paudie most games

Walker : Had he had a full pre season behind him, an time to gel into the team, he would of been up there for a spot in League Two Team of The Season. Regardless, he was still a level above

Cook : Had he stayed fit, an had he been deployed with a target man rather than being isolated, he would of gotten 20 goals last year

Angol : Technically a level above. Its just a shame about his reoccuring injuries

So this whole Talk of Watt, Paudie an Vernam being our best 3 players doesn’t really take into consideration all the relevant factors. Its just being used as a reason to provide a pessimistic assessment of the upcoming season by certain people on here

So to get back to the topic at hand, we didn’t really lose our best 3 players from last year. Had it not been for Adams getting half the squad injured, we’d be having a different conversation right now

I think they are just covering themselves with talk of 2 years....they know its pretty much expected by fans this year. Smallwood, Walker, Chapman didn't come here to hang around in L2. With a decent manager and a proper recruitment plan its not a hard league to get out of. The quality is poor and there are no clubs who can spend their way out of the division.

If they had a good go at it and maybe reach the play offs then they could be forgiven. Anything less than top 7 is a massive failure IMO.

I do expect us to be in the top 7. Whether it is a massive failure, disappointing yes but we will see.

Going to hold you to this.

If we don't get into the top 7 then who's head should roll? Sparks? Rupp or Hughes?

Hold me to it all you want. Its up to Hughes and the players now. Rupp owns the club and Sparks has pretty much done all he can off the pitch.

Yours. all this negative talk is getting everyone at the club down. NOT.
Fordy i have a feeling we might just be up there this year. Although it could just be wind.

Maybe a strong word if we finish 8th or so. Another 14th and it is.

We've recruited a lot of players on 2 year deals. If we don't get it right this season, we are stuck with them next season too.
Could be a long couple of seasons if this doesn't go well.
There'll be limited chance to change the squad next summer, other than try some new loans.
