None of us really know if our new coach will be able to do the job. I am concerned about his lack of experience. I am sure he backs himself as he appears to a confident young man, and that does go a long way. Nevertheless the ability to manage the stress and still function at a high level with no real experience is a challenge. I agree coaching a professional football team is unique, but the tried and tested way in anywalk of life to gain experience before making that next step up still applies. If he manages it we will all be winners. Regardless of any of the above, we all need to get behind him, and to cut him some slack, he didn’t ask for the job, but he has rolled his sleeves up and got on with it, and he deserves credit for picking up the baton. As I have said before it won’t be him that gets the flack from the fans if this doesn’t go well.

 

The original post stated that very rarely do people put a 32 year old in charge of a million pound business.

I’ve given him 4 examples of where they have and even younger and it’s worked.

 

Darryl Mac Anthony had built his own multi million pound business by the age of 26 and bought Peterborough by 30.

Why should Collins age mean anything? He played enough football to know football, just because he wasn’t an England international doesn’t make him any less suitable than cherry or McFarland

 

Consider this. Three of our last five promotions came with managers in their first full year as a manager and one of the others, kammy, can in his first six months.

The only managerial rookis to not get us promoted in their first jobs in the last 40 years are Stuart, Dolan and Hutchins and Dolan came damn near with the best footballing team I’ve ever seen at vp

 

It's boring now. We all get tired of the merry-go-round managers that rock up at clubs, spend 18 months there and then get a hefty pay cheque when sacked. People call for something different regularly - "Young British coaches don't get a chance".

We give one a chance.

And to add to that Collins started his badges at 25. He’s spent time with spurs and managed our youth side.

What difference does having a father as a manger make? Means nothing.

Harris was backed and so is Collins so far.

 

Gordon Gibb was the youngest chairman when he bought out Richmond and owned a multi million pound business.

 

Why would a psychologist be put in charge of social workers? Two different things entirely.

 

A little creative with the truth there fella. He was a part-time coach, not a manager of our youth side

The ‘original post’ was me saying that I’d prefer someone with some experience. I was asked how someone gets experience and QCFC picked up the batton to clarify further.

You then gave us examples of 4 managers who did well in their 1st job, but missed off the part of the comparisons with Collins in that 3 if them did more than 12mths PT coaching first

 

Sorry @BoingBoing, I was being deliberately pedantic and provocative, I know.
Rod has explained my point. To be appointed manager of a SW team you'd have to be a qualified social worker and to be a qualified SW you have to complete a specialist social work degree. Such degrees include some psychology and sociology, of course, but a whole lot more besides - a lot of law, human development, advocacy, values & ethics etc etc.
Anyway, enough derailing the thread.

You forgot that they also have to be card carrying members of the Labour Party and swear an allegiance to Jeremy Corbyn.
